Protesting The Flag

I have been watching the events of the weekend and the fallout since. I am fascinated.

The Left is furious! They are fervently trying to argue 1A rights when the rest of the nation is trashing their behavior.

This is not a legal fight. This is a behavioral fight. A solid society generally polices its members via social stigmata. The Left has been good with this in the past, with things like white guilt, fairness, etc. Suddenly they are getting a dose of their own. Notice that everywhere they are feverishly trying to deflect the argument.

“It’s not about the country; it’s about injustice.” But the argument is failing, as it is obviously about the country. And the cracks are starting to show. More boos. More vociferous support … Continue reading

Singapore – The Destruction of Bad Misconceptions

So F1 is more than half way over. The middle season break of 2-3 weeks has come and gone, and some teams actually took advantage to improve their equipment. But not all. And it’s still humans that guide these sophisticated 4-wheel missiles.

It is no secret that I am a Lewis Hamilton fan. I think the young man has incredible talent and drives so well. Vettel is a nice guy, and also a fine driver, but I don’t have the same sense for him. Maybe it’s because he’s Swiss. And thank goodness the nasty Rosberg is gone.

Anyway, the season has been a real nail-biter. While Mercedes has managed to pull out in front in the Manufacturer’s Championship, the the Driver Championship has been up for grabs. Lewis … Continue reading

The Civil War

One of Brent and my favorite authors of history is Mark David Ledbetter. He is a professor of language in Japan, and obviously a great study of American history. He has written 3 books so far in a series about American history, called America’s Forgotten History, which are available on Amazon in kindle form for some nominal cost. He is also a member of R> and perhaps the ONLY saving grace to that place. He goes by Matty Van as Martin VanBuren is his hero. Here is an interesting piece of his about the onset of the Civil War.

“The great American tragedy is raising its ugly head once more, as it does occasionally. People on both sides are viciously accused by people on opposite sides, sometimes justly, … Continue reading

When Jobs Disappear

Elsewhere these days there has been talk of a UBI – a Universal Basic Income. As one might expect, it has been proposed by Lefties as the basic means to guarantee all people a subsistence level of income. There are numerous arguments about why this is not a great idea, but I don’t believe we need to look at that here. We all grasp the underlying reasons society would not be benefited by this.

But beyond this, there is a looming question, not necessarily of our or even our children’s lifetime, of what happens when there are no longer jobs. The scenario runs like this. AI improves continuously until it is able to run everything – and better than humans. It is always on the job, it is … Continue reading

NK – ?Mostly Hot Air

I have been having a discussion with some jarhead friends of mine and the proposal has been put forth that NK is not economically capable of almost ANYTHING. Their economy is something between $15-25 Billion, which is about 1/5 the size of Alabama’s. Their annual fuel consumption is 15 billion barrels of oil.

This makes their annual GDP per capita something like $400 per person per year. Even assuming a pretty paltry pay system for the million man army they claim, ?where’s the money come from. ?Where do they get cash to buy enough centrifuges to actually make a nuclear warhead. They seemingly have uranium so they can mine it, so at least there’s a source for the raw materials.

But consider the military. The oil consumption of … Continue reading

Another Blow to the Left

I understand Pres Trump announced via twitter that transgender will no longer be allowed to serve in the services.

I am especially glad to see some semblance of sanity return to the Armed Services. Mental illness has always been a disqualifying aspect of serving, and this should be no different.

I believe there are definitely people who should not serve in the services. They are not “bad” people but unable to accept the kind of physical and psychological rigor one needs to serve in combat. And let’s face it – that is the ultimate purpose of all the military. They may not be IN combat 24/7, but they COULD be. Their job description is breaking things and killing people. If you are too confused in your head to … Continue reading

Half Way in F1

Today was the 10th race in a 20 race series of F1. It was held at the Silverstone Racetrack in England, a momentous venue.

F1 was created in 1950, right there at Silverstone. It is one of the old, famous tracks, unlike some of the tracks you find elsewhere, which are newcomers to the racing.

Lewis Hamilton took pole with a stunning lap about half a second ahead of #2 place. He had won 4 previous races at Silverstone, including the last 3 in a row. Clark and Prost are the only ones who have won 5 English Grand Prix’s, Mansell 4. Clark and Prost, however, won at a variety of tracks, not Silverstone only.

The race was quite dramatic. Although Hamilton was on the pole, Haikennan in … Continue reading

Draining The Swamp

I found this a reasonable analogy –

Title: Draining the Swamp is Messy
By Michael Master
Our home is in a community of 2,000 homes located on the intercostal in North Carolina. Everything lives here. Alligators. Water moccasins. Rattle snakes. Sea hawks. Egrets. Giant blue heron. Mosquitoes… blood sucking mosquitoes. We’ve watched from our back porch as dolphins chased sail boats
and motor boats up the intercostal and watched the moon rise over the ocean to cast its glow over the intercostal.

When the community decided to drain the swamp in the center of the community, it was a big deal. Draining the swamp was messy. The swamp was about 10 football fields, about 6 feet deep, with lots of creatures living in it. … Continue reading
