At first I thought he was just strategerizing his endorsement for impact, like showing up late to a party. But he showed about as much enthusiasm for her as she did for Netanyahu when she was finally forced to shake hands and equivocate.
So what gives?
Could it be something as petty as he is the only “black” president and Kamala will be the first “black” woman? He doesn’t want to share any part of the limelight? This was my first thought when I heard that fake phone call. What do I know.
I have no doubt that Obama considers anyone else to be a big step down from him. IIRC, he chose Hillary over Slow Joe before and probably would choose her over Kamala if she were younger. Is it possible that he just doesn’t see anyone to be enthusiastic about?
By endorsing Kamala he is playing the odds. She’s a possible winner, much as I hate to think that. How would it look if she took the prize without Obama’s blessing? He would have shown himself to be an inconsequential person whose support is not needed.
I think Obama has proven to be a practical politician. He became very good at being stealthy and he’s proud of that. He wants to win. He sees Kamala as a bad candidate ( he thought Joe was too in 2016) but once the whole of the Dem party endorsed her, he had no choice.
