I applaud this man;s civility in explaining his choice, and his discretion in choosing not to tshow up, rather than make some sort of scene. If this is grandstanding, we have little to complain about.

I don’t know how long former Senator Rick Santorum will hold out in the Republican primary race, but he has had his peak and will not recover. He may do well here and there, but he is already out of money. Much of his recent surge was a by-product of Newt’s spending on Romney ads. Santorum’s Florida options have been described elsewhere as either spending what’s left or accepting failure.
Pundits like Hugh Hewitt have no doubt realized that Newt’s sustained rise in polling is not a fluke and not about to turn around. It’s why he and his sort have been so stunningly petty in recent days. Mistaking recent swings for meaningful reversals is the gambler’s mistake–the opposite of the investment mindset. Of course, when the GOP … Continue reading
I might be more inclined to believe the GOP’s claim to be waiting for the cavalry before taking on the enemy if they didn’t have all their guns aimed at the cavalry. If you understood that right off, you are Tea Party.
Boehner has been negotiating with his enemy while fighting against his allies. He is one of those who faults the Tea Party for not recapturing the Senate as if that were in a different universe than the six seats gained there (it wasn’t the Tea Party that put us down to 39 F’n seats!) and sixty or so picked up in the House.
The recent history of the national electoral landscape looks like this: the GOP lost in 2006 and 2008. The Tea Party won in … Continue reading
This is not a recovery.
Initial jobless claims unexpectedly jumped by 24,000 last week to 399,000 as more workers lost their jobs, the Labor Department said Thursday. At the same time, the economy continues to lose workers.
A recovery is marked by a surge in workforce, employment, productivity, and purchasing power. A recovery is not a meek return to wobbling stability, but a furious boom with catching up to do. The media is covering this up. They know that they can explain the difference once a week, while trumpeting the “recovery” one hundred times per day (about once each fifteen-minute headline rotation), and they’ve covered their bases.
Notice that nobody … Continue reading
Spot the ball:
Speaking on ITV’s This Morning, the teenager from Chelmsford, revealed she had a difficult childhood as her severe case of neurofibromatosis had left her with disfiguring growths. But the brave youngster battled through and after having several operations in the U.S, she has just celebrated her 18th birthday.
Our health care system is the envy of the world. Which is a little odd, because it is also the cornerstone of the world’s healthcare systems. Once we debase it with ObamaCare, the whole world will be worse off.
Some of the nonsense you keep hearing:
First Trust Advisors economists Brian Wesbury and Robert Stein argue that labor force concerns are overblown. The latest jobs report, they say, was the best since the economic recovery started. “Let’s not make up reasons to be disappointed when the numbers are getting a little bit better every month,” they wrote in a Monday dispatch.
–Investor’s Business Daily
We’re not making up reasons–we’re swamped in reasons to distrust and loathe the numbers and explanations which squirt freely from this administration.
The blunt fact here is that a real recovery feels like boom, tempered only by the fact that people know it’s all making up for lost time. And that’s the problem here. No matter how much “recovery” happens, we’re … Continue reading
Those two Marines should be reprimanded, but only for doing it wrong: first you piss on the Taliban’s foreheads, THEN you shoot them, and then by God, there will be peace.
Trust me, the Afghan good guys who have suffered under the Taliban see it this way, and our squeamishness is why they do not trust us. Pretending that this is a war between uniformed forces is a disaster. This is a battle against savage animals.
At least *somebody* is trying to to win the F’n war over there.
Besides, in my world (as in, when I’m king), Taliban don’t get funerals–they get composted. So good on ya Devil Dogs! Providing not only fresh fertilizer, but irrigation to the farms of Afghanistan. That’s COIN-plus, right there.
See the retro-green everywhere? Nicely done, don’t you think? Well, that’s all on hold while my country is in extremis. I didn’t serve under five Presidents so that I could be asked to show my “papers please” at TSA checkpoints on the Interstate.
Death to Communism; difficulty to Communists.
Peace out.
If you, like I, have sworn an oath to support and defend the Constitution, now is a very good time to decide what that means for you. I have decided what it means for me.
A man who lays claim to bravery in risking his life for his country, but who will not risk his career for the same, is a coward and a liar. Continue reading
