Nuclearabia

Germany has announced that it will go nuke-free by the year 2022.  Switzerland by 2034.  On the other hand, France, Spain and the Czech Republic are forging ahead with partnerships and research.  France is set to virtually corner the market on non-military nuclear energy production, research, and technology.  Not that I think the Germans will successfully de-nuclearize.  Economics won’t let them.  I figure the only way they get off nuclear power is if riots over energy prices drag the whole country back in time to the point that they heat their homes with the flaming skulls of their enemies.

Uninformative Infographic Fails Graphically

Wired Magazine published (online anyway) an infographic which is so very uninformative and poorly graphic that I gave it a blast in the comments.  Fearing that the comments could be deleted, I’ll reproduce comment and stunningly bad graph here.  To summarize, the whole point of an infographic is to show a pattern (or lack of a pattern), correlation, or difference which might otherwise be difficult to tease out of data or narrative.  Time-series are famous for being scant on meaningful content, and this is their king:

Timed to the upcoming July 22 release of the Captain America: The First Avenger movie — starring Chris Evans as the star-spangled superhero —Marvel Comics is releasing a series of variant covers for its July superhero titles with an “I Am Captain America” theme.

Bad Obama Pix

Remember all the awful pictures of President Bush?  Even when the media was not being blatant, they would show him trying to look dignified on a blustery day or after an awkward question, and side by side or following was a picture of some democrat with a hale and hearty appearance, jaw set and brow stern.  If you pay attention to color balance, even without knowing the exact problem, you could see that there was a problem.  Republicans get cold, washed or peaked colors and balances, while democrats get warm, rich, even treatment.

Another Reactor Fire in Northeastern Japan

Another fire at a Japanese nuclear plant.  Don’t worry, though:

TEPCO spokesman Naoyuki Matsumoto says there’s no fear of a radiation leak due to the fire.

Thank Heavens TEPCO is here to announce that everything is under control, and that there is nothing to worry about.  Especially radiation.  Whew.

And those of us who criticize, rather than fellate, traditional Japanese management practices are still wa-a-ay off base.  Probably just racists.  Not a management-improving thought in our empty heads.

Note that I am not criticizing the fact that there was a fire.  Accidents happen, and while not at all desirable, are still “in bounds” for management.  I am criticizing the fact the TEPCO has zero credibility left, after decades of consistently lying and covering up problems … Continue reading →

Fury in Japan

The President has had an awful week-or-so.

He began by attempting to sandbag Israel so the Muslim middle east would let him onto the bandwagon, but he got schooled by both sides, whap-bap.

He lost phony “Doctor” Cornel West, a normally reliable lefty racist honorary “professor” who won his seat on the bandwagon by shellacking Clarence Thomas.  It’s okay though, the media is still covering Obama on this front.  West is an unperson and will be savaged.

David Mamet, the highly-respected playwright whose works are loved across the political spectrum has completed his conversion to the conservative side of things.  Standby for Mamet to be dismissed as a no-talent brainwashed jerk.
