Over at Sultan Knish (http://sultanknish.blogspot.com/) Greenfield is noting that Europe is making a serious attempt to die. All the muslim “migrants” are killing their welfare state, so that even Denmark and the Dutch are making changes in how they do things. Perhaps they will restrict the number of muslims that come in. Perhaps not.
But the more interesting question may well be, ?is Europe worth saving. Europe certainly has been the center of much of the development of Western Civilization. But while one can make a very good argument that the Crusades saved Europe from a muslim fate back then – and just barely so – today the Europe we see isn’t much to talk about. The nations all have some socialist tyranny in place, the degree varying but always the same basic approach. It is unclear the Europeans of today have any real conceptualization of freedom/liberty. Certainly the concept of property, absolutely central to a prospering market capitalism and the bedrock of most Western Civilization, is lost to a fair degree. Communal life is more the norm, or at least the goal.
We, too, aren’t far from Europe. Seeing just how dysfunctional they are, it is purely amazing that anyone here would be a proponent of copying Europe. But the elitists continue to wish for an American Europe.
?What is left to save.
Have waited a while to say anything, because I wasn’t sure what to say…Having spent a bit of time reading the Apocalypse recently, I have to say, even if the idea of Constitutional republicanism/representative democracy takes a beating, there are still people who remember it. As long as there’s one, we’re not done.
After 11/13/15 in Paris, we may be too late…..
Is it not interesting how quickly they have managed to “raid” locales of muslims. I hear that yesterday the French raided 187 locations. These were not random raids, although since government is involved, one can question just how accurate they were. Still, it implies the knowledge of a large number of “enemy” locations.
Some news organization today made the comment that the French will no longer tolerate extremism. We, too, had that sense – on September 12, 2001. It wore away. I see little real desire to engage in cultural warfare, and that is surely what is needed. But fascism and socialism are joined at the hip. One can hardly expect serious combat against a “friendly” culture, so to speak.
As I said, I wonder if Europe is worth saving. Or if it even CAN be saved.
