Town Hall Meeting in the Village of the Darned — 8:30 PM Eastern Wednesday

It’s that time of the week again, when we connect for another town hall meeting in the Village of the Darned.

BDB will be away instructing destroyer crews on how not to collide with cargo ships, tankers, cruise ships, and school buses. I’ll be on around 8:30 PM EDT.  Jam a topic in the comments below and let people read up if you like.  Example: “Why do sailors not know the difference between the acronyms for standard time and daylight time?”

If the software tells you that you’re the only caller, don’t you believe it! Press on with the access code and you’ll probably find us in there!

Unable to Accept Responsibility

I see this in people who want to to be leaders and/or leadership positions. They think an excuse gets them off the hook. Or good intentions count for good actions.  They throw people under the bus. They think “rain in Seattle” is an unforeseen event. I don’t know whether to be angry at these people or truly feel sorry for them.

The sad/ironic part to these people is they can be intelligent yet stupid. They can analyze the problems in others and fail to see the obvious about themselves. They are like the stars where the field of gravity is too strong and light can’t get out but for them it seems light can’t get in.

I should/want to end this on a positive note. There are wonderful … Continue reading

A Simple Question for the Tribe

I believe it was Oscar Wilde who said  “The world is divided into two kinds of people, those who divide the world into two types and those who do not.”

Oscar always knew how to turn a phrase like a knife in the ribs.

A lot of pixels and ink has been used to describe the two sides forming in these here United States, so I ask the readers and writers and assorted porch swing pundits over the crackerbarrel here at BDB to chime in and let us know how you see the split going.

Let me offer my own unworthy variant:

America is drifting with two tectonic plates that are moving apart. I call one the Deplorable Republic and the other the Coastal Degeneracy.

The major characteristic … Continue reading

Meanwhile, In The Deplorable Republic, A Rising Sense Of Purpose Hums A Tune

My job has ups and downs, and this is one of the ups. After nursing this client through a lawsuit, a loan recall, a housing recession of cataclysmic proportions and a Chapter 11 restructure, here we are six years later , moving forward with the latest technology for computer controlled stone cutting. Marble, Quartz or granite, this Robosaw will slice it, dice it and write your name in it.

We got a great financing package and a really good old style small town bank that survived the Federal attempt to kill small banks.

I stood there today after reviewing the latest cash … Continue reading

Taming the Wild Donkey

Sometimes a meeting is about who was there and not what was decided.

The Democrats have been spouting apoplectic vitriol about POTUS for months now, some of it insane, some obscene, some treasonous.

I enjoy listening to the twaddle from Convention Wisdom paid pundits, looking at the recent Trump- Pelosi , Schumer session in terms of the transaction.

For POTUS to win, he needs leverage against the entrenched GOP. For that he needs some vulnerable democrats to work with him on healthcare, taxes, infrastructure and more.

The optics from that meeting is that Schumer and Pelosi, the closest thing the Dems have to leaders can work with POTUS and make deals. That signals the vulnerable to go ahead.  The win in the meeting was breaking the diatribe by … Continue reading

Trump Draws Line Across McConnell’s Face

As related in the Politico, the GOP just got itself Trumped:

On Wednesday morning, Ryan called the deal floated by Democrats to fund the government and lift the debt ceiling through mid-December as part of a relief package for Hurricane Harvey victims “disgraceful.” Expecting cover from Trump on their insistence to extend the debt ceiling much longer, Ryan and McConnell instead were abandoned.

Long story short: Republicans wanted to extend the debt ceiling for a very long time.  Democrats wanted eighteen months.  Both sides wanted to pair this with Harvey relief cash.  Trump went to the Democrats and got a deal … Continue reading
