Thomas Sowell is better at describing this than I but there are people who love writing for writing’s sake. Or Nassim Taleb’s “Intellectual Yet Idiots” is another way to say it. They feel a need to foist their opinions on us but no obligation to have responsibility for those beliefs.
I do like reading good stuff so writers are necessary. What I appreciate are people who produce and then write. The writing is the cart not the horse. Or I am saying if the writing comes first it doesn’t go far. For example I love the musings of a certain former software CEO who learned from life and then shared those lessons.
How does one get people with great ideas to write more and people with loose typewriter movements to write less?
I remember when I started Group Writing that I was so happy to help people to write their first posts. I knew that was even hard so I came up with Quote of the Day to help people share their thoughts through quotes.
I am relatively new here and think about ways to smooth the posting process. One way is to have people pick a day of the week for example Monday. So every Monday one writes a post about whatever they want. This way new content goes up and those who like to follow you know which day to check for your stuff.
Which day??
People should check multiple times, every day, just in case.
I didn’t explain well. You have at least 7 people.
Person A posts on Sunday
Person B posts on Monday
Person C posts on Tuesday
Person D posts on Wednesday
Person E posts on Thursday
Person F posts on Friday (F sounds like Brent’s day.)
Person G posts on Saturday
That person tries to write one post per week.
Do you want to try this Xennady? It might cut into your official greeter time.
No, I can just churn out an amazing amount of schlock.
At the bad place I would sometimes write hundreds of words of commentary while I was eating breakfast.
I spare you guys from all that, because I don’t want to punish you.
But I could quite easily post every day without impacting my greeter time at all.
Thanks, Xennady.
Do you have the Schlockmeister 3000? You know the one with auto-redundancy and cliche and snark short cuts.
No, I’ve got something better- the Schlockmeister Edition.
Not only does it repeat my favorite arguments, complete with automatically inserted cliches and stern denunciations of the gop establishment, it also has a glass back.
That last proves I’m better than the average schlockmeister owner, because I paid more for mine.
We are not worthy.
Not the Schlockmeister Limited Edition? Schlock just about writes itself with that, Xennady. I am saving up money for the Microagressor Model. (Not to be confused with Right Angles.)
This is as good a place as any to ask two data related questions. I’d like to attach photos to my posts, more so than I have been, but worry about their size. What’s a good guideline? And, do photos residing in the add media tool affect the site?
Please do add photos! Don’t use the place *for storage*, but pictures that accompany articles are more than welcome.
TL;DR = 100 kB max.
For typical blog post pix, a physical width in the 600 ~ 800 range is adequate. For really special pictures that people will want to view full-screen, I would say 1280x ___ or 1600 x ___ is a good size. File size depends on color depth and the magic factor, but the high end should be between 80 ~ 120 kB.
I have not posted this anywhere else yet, but I should — I looked a bunch of stuff up just to answer this question. Thank you for the excellent question!
You mean 100 megabytes, right? 100 kb seems way to low.
Why did you move here if you want to make it like there?
Who is this directed at, MLH?
What does “like there” mean?
