“The Establishment” is an ephemeral term we, especially me, have used to described the entrenched political class bureaucracy: elected, appointed, and otherwise in Washington DC. I respect in elections past there was room for reasoned debate about the existence and influence of said establishment. However, since January 20th all debate is moot as the forces arrayed against those who propelled Donald Trump to the presidency have cast off their masks and revealed their agenda(s).
The foot dragging of a majority Republican Senate in confirming the President’s reasonable cabinet officers, stalling repeal of the ACA, and now silence while an Obama flunky attorney foments a Constitutional crisis is beyond reproach. Consistent with what we have endured since handing Senatorial power to the feckless Republicans again we are fed excuses shrouded as pragmatic diplomacy for why nothing gets done.
Why the consistent underperformance? Look no further then messer’s McConnell and Cornyn our intrepid Senate ‘leadership’. Our capital is rapidly incubating the next civil war and Senator McConnell is no wartime consigliere to Mr. Trump and his advisors.
Gird your loins. Any victory won at the ballot box in November is fleeting at best. Mr. Trump’s election was the big F___ You to the status quo and powers that be. Unfortunately, we the people, did not send that message clearly to Congressional Republicans and returned them to power with startling incumbent success and now they are tone deaf to the spirited inaugural speech delivered by our 45th President.
Point taken. I’m regretting my senatorial vote for Marco Rubio after his shameful performance at Rex Tillerson’s confirmation hearing.
Being a long time Florida resident, I am not surprised by him; his ways are too well known to us. I did not vote for him, and can’t imagine I ever would. He is a younger, better looking McConnell available to the highest bidder/deal maker.
I admit I was taken in back when he was in the Florida House; after NR’s cover story on him, he had me!
I’ve been done with Rubio since the Gang of eight, and loudly so.
Harrrrrumph.
Great post, Brent! Thank you.
You are most welcome and Thank You Ball.
It is up to Trump and Bannon to put the Senate in a box where they must do a few key things. Obamacare and taxes. I hope the HOuse drives those and McConnell decides to bet behind two risky ventures, knowing the risk of doing nothing may be greater.
We will see.
Good points, just recall that Messer’s Ryan and P. Sessions are captaining the good ship House. Right into the ‘berg.
