I had four four foot 40W fluorescents fail. They were sporadic and took time to give up the glow. I finally changed to four foot LED light bars. Think 4 white light sabers stuck on the ceiling. They are suppose to last 40,000 hours. They might outlast us all.
Recently at Chez 10, I have a round LED blob on the ceiling. That comes with a remote control that dims and has a timer to turn it off and to turn it on. I can change the color some two.
For those not living in the backwoods of Pencilvania, do you have LEDs? If so what kind? Do you like them?
Swapping out as old bulbs die. Half the kitchen now. Bright on one side!
Just don’t make me use LED Christmas lights — for Halloween they are okay but give me good old C7 or C9 for Christmas.

Fourmilab’s Christmas lights have been LED since 2004.

Never looked back. If you do, you’d turn into a pillar of salt.
“Never looked back. If you do, you’d turn into a pillar of salt.”
John, is this your Lot in life?
But what do I do with my Easy Bake Oven? I am still waiting for my brownies to bake with my LED bulb.
john, do you really think i’m going to read that? i will if tells me which, if any, LED christmas lights, colored ones, don’t look eerie.
At the Pencil Box we still thrill to the tink tink-a-tink buzzzz buzzzz that heralds the dawn upon flipping the switch in our laundry room. You modern people live such a sound-effect sparse life.
Are LEDs like the curly-fry light bulbs, which are hazmatable when they break?
The curly-fry bulbs are fluorescent bulbs. LED stands for Light Emitting Democrats. (They are low wattage and produce less heat.)
Pencil, I thought you had oil lamps. When did you get elecmatricity?
The alleged lifetime is a fraudulent scam. It’s based on somewhat idealized behavior for a single diode. Many things can go wrong long in advance.
First, the fixture has many diodes and you might suffer 1-5% attrition per year and the diodes are not individually replaceable.
Second, as with the scam of fluorescent bulbs, the electronics can and do easily fail, thereby bricking the fixture.
Third, the light can be very harsh. The garage at my office has LED fixtures they are blinding if in your field of vision, but do not light the garage well.
Yeah, we had one new, 20-year LED bulb go out at work.
Where can one buy incandescent bulbs?
Dime, what do you mean you can change the color of the bulb? Warm light to cool light?
I can change from a yellowish to a whitish or visa versus. Expensive ones give you multi colors.
My husband has started replacing the old bulbs with the LEDs. Only one in right now. Not enough to make a judgement on. Time will tell, I guess.
I am in Japan. The normal style of lighting in rooms is a round ceiling unit. The old days they were round circular fluorescent bulbs.
I have one or two of the new stupid curly lights in the basement. Most of my lights are ceiling lights.
I hate the curly ones. The light is harsh and not at all what I want a room light to be like. We bought a bunch of regular bulbs and replace as needed, so SO FAR none of the stupid government mandated stuff.
