If government will not defend our civilization -- lives, letters, and graves -- then society must, despite having constituted a government for exactly that task.
This is why you should have had kids. This is a task for a teenager. My hands are too tender to use bent steel allen keys. I’d use a driver set (where you put the hex bits into a screwdriver handle).
Ikea directions are designed for people who can’t read. Tell your “friend” to find an illiterate person to assemble the sofa and everything will be fine. Alternatively, your friend could get a lobotomy; then the instructions would make perfect sense. However, there are some minor side effects to consider.
I’d rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.
DocLor, you are probably right. Anyone with a degree would not be able to do this. If I remember correctly nothing can be made unless one turns right repeatedly.
OK, I can see I’ll have to straighten out an entire passel of non-mechanical types. We buy a lot of IKEA furniture for our offices and our first requirement is that it is delivered by people WHO WILL PUT IT TOGETHER on site! It is an additional fee but let us be frank… who among us has the option not to pay for this service?
The sofa has not come and “my friend” looked at the instructions and they are all in pictures. I never knew they made manuals for Vald.
First, find a Swede. In Japan, you may be up a
bäck.
Will a Norwegian do? One Scandia is a good as another, right?
Wrong, if it’s not a Swede your project is dane the tubes.
You mean I am Finnish before I start, Pencil.
One serious issue is that with Ikea furniture what look like phillips screws are often pozidriv:

I see the article is about 4 years old. It looks like they changed the screws.
I assembled an Ikea bed about 2 years ago and some tables last year that used pozidriv.
How long did it take you to do it. There will be about four things to assemble.
My guess is 1-1.5 hours for the sofa and 20-30 minutes for smaller things like tables.
The bed probably took about 1-1.5 hours
Did you do it by yourself?
My cousin helped hold the pieces together while I tightened the screws.
I’m sharing that info, ct! Never knew that.
I think I am not screwed but hexed. Look at the picture in the OP.

I figure a socket wrench will do it. The allen keys are okay if you have nothing.
Friends don’t let friends shop at Ikea.
I did say “my friend” was a good friend.

I have put together bookcases before but never a sofa.
The sofa was easy. It came mostly made. I had about 20 parts.
I put the desk together which was harder. This was the first thing I put together and I made a few mistakes which were easy to correct.
