Curmudgeon Mumbles

The dust is settling.

North Korea is still a problem, but we are putting real pressure on them.

The GOPe owns the Obamacare failure.

Puerto Rico needs help so badly their Democrat Governor refuses to play racism nonsense and praises the aid measure.

The NFL players and Owners just got a lesson in the dangers of bubblevision.

Even the Editor in Chief at NRO is chastising the kneejerk reflex NeverRights on his payroll.

The congress now has to deliver something of significance and Tax Reform is teed up.

Ever since the stars fell on Alabama (ten points for the pop culture ref) it seems we are moving forward.

Reflections On Alabama

If you have not seen the video of POTUS in Alabama, I recommend it.

We have seen the great communicator, we have see oratory and I feel your pain.

We now have a POTUS who says what is on his mind, has the attitude you get when you get past sixty and is not afraid to show honest feelings.

He actually said that the team owners in the NFL should “Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. He’s Fired!” when players take a knee during the National anthem.

He called Kin Jon Un “Little Rocket Man”

He called out the GOP Senate as the main roadblock to achieving things for the country.

It went on for over an hour, and what was communicated was sincerity … Continue reading

The Treehouse of Different Views.

An interesting take on POTUS policy for China and NK.  I would very much be interested in the reaction from our esteemed members and even a few steamed ones.

President Trump Announces New Sanctions Against North Korea…

I do find it fascinating that the media coverage of the sanction actions is so shallow and thin.

I also find it amazing that Bush, Clinton and even Obama  did not use this level of sanctions. It is as if we were really playing to lose for the last three administrations.

Last Dry Weekend

Life is to enjoy once you survive.  Having survived the week, the Red Headed Irish Wisecracker and I took the pickup and a long weekend on the way to celebrate the birth of our first child forty four years ago.

Rolling north , we decided to cruise to Olympic National Park. The sun, which turned out to be the last regular sun for the year was bright and the sky blue as we ascended to Hurricane Ridge on the peninsula.

Towards the end of the day , took a ferry across the Sound, always a great experience.

A Simple Question for the Tribe

I believe it was Oscar Wilde who said  “The world is divided into two kinds of people, those who divide the world into two types and those who do not.”

Oscar always knew how to turn a phrase like a knife in the ribs.

A lot of pixels and ink has been used to describe the two sides forming in these here United States, so I ask the readers and writers and assorted porch swing pundits over the crackerbarrel here at BDB to chime in and let us know how you see the split going.

Let me offer my own unworthy variant:

America is drifting with two tectonic plates that are moving apart. I call one the Deplorable Republic and the other the Coastal Degeneracy.

The major characteristic … Continue reading

Meanwhile, In The Deplorable Republic, A Rising Sense Of Purpose Hums A Tune

My job has ups and downs, and this is one of the ups. After nursing this client through a lawsuit, a loan recall, a housing recession of cataclysmic proportions and a Chapter 11 restructure, here we are six years later , moving forward with the latest technology for computer controlled stone cutting. Marble, Quartz or granite, this Robosaw will slice it, dice it and write your name in it.

We got a great financing package and a really good old style small town bank that survived the Federal attempt to kill small banks.

I stood there today after reviewing the latest … Continue reading

Taming the Wild Donkey

Sometimes a meeting is about who was there and not what was decided.

The Democrats have been spouting apoplectic vitriol about POTUS for months now, some of it insane, some obscene, some treasonous.

I enjoy listening to the twaddle from Convention Wisdom paid pundits, looking at the recent Trump- Pelosi , Schumer session in terms of the transaction.

For POTUS to win, he needs leverage against the entrenched GOP. For that he needs some vulnerable democrats to work with him on healthcare, taxes, infrastructure and more.

The optics from that meeting is that Schumer and Pelosi, the closest thing the Dems have to leaders can work with POTUS and make deals. That signals the vulnerable to go ahead.  The win in the meeting was breaking the diatribe by … Continue reading

The Illegitimi Grind Another One Down

Sad day here. One of my basket cases going through Chapter 11 is giving it up.  Between the prolongation of the case by a seriously OCD Federal Judge, a vindictive Federal Trustee who keeps trying to prove malfeasance and the actions of a Progressive Government passing a ridiculous minimum wage law state wide, the three restaurant business is going under.

Once the wages were mandated , full service restaurants that were middle priced were doomed. Chipolte and other ‘fast fresh’ models would dominate.

The Judge took every minor accusation and demanded a full blown investigation , which took the available cash from a start point of $300,000 and dwindled it to $100,000 in professional fees to rebut the charges over a two year period.  They happened to be … Continue reading

God Teaches By Example Sometimes…

We just got back home after  fleeing a forest fire which was forcing evacuations at our planned destination while we were enroute. The whole of Western Oregon and N Cali is engulfed in orange smoke from the many burns underway.  So much for a quick getaway weekend for our 46th anniversary.

After we got on the grid I got in touch with my nephew who lives in Houston. He and his family are safe and dry for now. He says the devastation of the waters is beyond belief.

I send money and prayers, for an old man would need more help than he can give in Texas. May the cost in lives and spirits be low despite the damage and losses which will be uncountable.

My reflection is … Continue reading
