I can get a usable laptop for a cheap price. The only catch is it needs a new keyboard. It is either an Asus or an Acer. (I can’t remember which one for I get the mixed up all the time.)
From what I have read it just takes removing some screws and disconnecting a cable then putting in the new keyboard. As many of you know what should happen and what does happen can be two different things.
I have done things to desktops but I have never done anything with a laptop. Any good suggestions would be appreciated?
I just got word that it is an Acer and someone who has more experience than I will replace the keyboard for me.
How savvy are the BDBers when it comes to doing things under the hood of a computer?
I have put in hard drives, dvd drives, sound cards, video cards, memory cards, and a CPU. I still remember thinking I broke my machine the first time I did it. I looked like my dog died till I realized that I failed to press hard enough to get the video card in to the slot. (I know I know you would think a coin would know more about slots.) For those who have no idea what I am talking about. If you don’t get a video card into the slot you will get NO PICTURE AT ALL.
Get a new one. You’ll be better off with a new modest laptop under warranty than a great, aged, cheap one which already has issues.
Thanks for the advice. We are talking very little money so if I get a few month out of it I will be okay.
I got my new old laptop. It is working out okay so far.
Seems to me the biggest problem with old computers is that they won’t run new OS’s. Something about the chip architecture. When that happens, you end up suspended forever with whatever era programs that form of OS supports. ONE issue then is that you can’t open documents from a newer version (say Word or Excell) although usually you can have YOUR documents opened by the newer program (so it’s a one way street).
I am using this laptop for an Internet surfer.
