A Rising Star

Don’t believe any of you here give the UN much strength. It is mostly a collection of people who in a proper world would be in jail. Despite this, they get to pontificate and pronounce upon far more righteous people without fear of retribution. Oh to be able to return to the times of, say, 125 years ago – with modern technology. Be some dead uglies lying about.

So imagine my surprise to note all the goings on these last several months. Nikki Haley has totally tossed the way business is done there. No more mumble, mumble, shall we break for lunch.

Look at some of the things she has done. She began by calling out the Russians over the chem attack in Syria. Then there was the refusal to hold a “closed session” about the same. Her stance was that she wanted the world to see and hear how people stood, and on which side of the line. Soooo uncomfortable for weasel politicians.

Now she appears to be taking on North Korea AND China, albeit her stance on China at least hasn’t called them scum. Some points were given for some of China’s moves. But at the same time she gave no support for a rather feckless proposal from China, perhaps a sign that we are not in the mood for games.

Fat boy is a problem. In many ways he is a problem for not only the Korean Peninsula but all of SE Asia, and indirectly for the world. So far, despite the “best efforts” of our more “traditional” politicians, nothing has improved and things seem to have gone south. Haley is not making it easy for China to sit back and do nothing.

I think it is premature to call China scum. They are opportunistic. If they think they can grab something without cost to themselves, they will take it, even when they should not. But if there is a price – or even a perceived price – they back off and wait, hanging on to some of what they took.

(From their standpoint why not? If you were stupid enough to do the equivalent of leaving a $20 on the subway seat and walk away without it, too bad if you come back to claim it.)

They have not backed away from wanting what they went after. They just figure it is easier to wait until the new sheriff is a sleeping policeman.

The thing about Trump’s Syria attack and the use of the MOAB is China now believes Trump plays hard, and will throw an elbow or two on the field. China takes the long view and will likely be content to wait for the next Pajama Boy President. What is 4 to 8 years to a country whose history spans millennia?

Oh yeah, I think China will help us to deal with Fat Boy, if only because South Korea is a major local trading partner, and because if a war between North Korea and everyone else in the universe (except China) goes nuclear, China might get some of the radioactive back-splash. Look for Nikki Haley and Trump to work that angle.

I was originally opposed to Haley’s appt for no negative reason whatsoever but simply because she was such an effective governor in a very important red state.

However, I’m coming around now; it’s obvious she has taken what was once an impotent job and is throwing her considerable ‘weight’ and intelligence around that dreadful waste of U.S. taxpayer dollars.

She perfectly exemplifies the old adage that the job does not make the person, but a good executive makes the job.

Even John Bolton (the best reference anyone could have) approves of her!

Perhaps Haley is reminiscent of the late, great Jeane Kirkpatrick? If looks could kill, the anti-Israel branch of the UN would all have been dead. She could stare down any of those third-world dirtbags.

Nikki Haley: Making the UN great again. Or, anyway, making the UN less offensive than usual.

    Amb. Haley has done well

The fat man with the shoe polish hair needs to be dealt with promptly.

China knows he is a loose cannon.

And desperately in need of a new barber! Perhaps this is why he seems so maniacally driven to destroy the world and those around him; consistently bad hair days could drive anyone to the brink …
