Electoral Treason

As I discuss in my post on Ethical Resistance, the ends are not so much what determines who is a domestic enemy of the Constitution.  Face, it, many people would like to change the Constitution, and that desire is not unconstitutional.  No matter what changes are made, if they are made through valid, Constitutional method, the change is “in bounds”.  If each change withstands scrutiny, and the constitution itself is changed to allow new or different methods, and then those methods are used to effect further change, this is all constitutional.  This is why a defense of the Constitution as it currently stands is critical.  Right now the biggest threat I see to the future of the Republic is the collaborative sabotage of the electoral college, which is a Constitutional requirement, but the workings of which are not.

There is currently a highly successful plot to modify the processes surrounding the electoral college so that each state would agree to pool individual citizen votes and then pledge their own electoral votes to the winner of a single direct popular majority.   This would render the several states simply administrative divisions of the Federal government, a complete reversal of the roles intended and quite plainly spelled out in the Constitution.  The problem is that each state is free to do as it wishes with its electoral college position, and therefore this method appears completely Constitutional.

So there is nothing illegal about this, and the Supreme Court is likely to find it Constitutional if asked.  Even given a crunchy conservative majority on the bench there, the court would be hard-pressed to justify a contrary ruling based upon foreseeable consequences which are apparently the desire of the people (required to pass the measure in each state),  the states (a huge majority of which would be necessary in order to make it work),  and the federal government.  Washington would be even less likely to act than the court since this would transfer an enormous amount of power to DC within a generation.  It would ensure the election of wave after wave of progressive presidents, who would make Obama look like Ford and 2011 look like 1956.

This election tampering amounts to a coup.  It is the most direct, credible threat to our Constitution.  It is likely to succeed and it is guaranteed to break our system of government.
