If government will not defend our civilization -- lives, letters, and graves -- then society must, despite having constituted a government for exactly that task.
It was a little too far away for me to attend, but I am SO glad he picked PA for this. This state has a big blue bullseye drawn around it by the DNC and I love it when he sticks his thumb in that eye.
Co-option might be the norm, but this case reminds me of the plot of “The Count Of Monte Cristo”.
Trump does not need their money and at age seventy, knows they will never accept him in their class.
The fact that he refuels from the applause of the non elites indicates to me he will stay with his goals and screw the elites over and over. He will set them against each other to get his programs moving forward.
It will be imperfect, and haphazard, but the ball will move down the field.
Just for the record TKC, Trump grew up in a fair amount of affluence, but he came of age in the middle class borough of Queens. You can hear this in his accent and sometimes in the incorrect use of grammar.
If you haven’t lived in NYC, you have no idea of the extreme social pecking order that exists among the boroughs and this is precisely why I admire him so. I used to attend restaurants and clubs on nights when we knew we wouldn’t have to associate with the “bridge and tunnel” crowd.
He overcame all of that to become a billionaire and the Leader of the Free World. And all those ‘little people’ who voted for him understand exactly what I’m saying and who he really is.
He’s the most comprehensive depiction of the American Success Story in the 20th and 21st centuries.
Over on that other website I’ve made a similar point about social class and the opposition to Trump. The punditry still doesn’t get it. They’re still in a defensive crouch: “It’s not about class at all but he’s so uncouth!”
One wins by playing your own game when you can. We live in a Internet YouTube World. People don’t need or want the gatekeepers and the gatekeepers are not happy.
Communication is relatively free and they can’t compete.

Stage II: Co-option and dirty association.

That is my current assessment/hope.

I grew up from a NY family scattered from Manhattan , Brooklyn, Queens and Nassau and Suffolk in the same years Trump grew up.
The social strata was and still is quite pronounced.
Trump knows he will never be embraced by the Manhattan elites.
And that is NOT a bad thing!
“Trump knows he will never be embraced by the Manhattan elites.”
This is the best thing… He doesn’t give a damn!

It has always been about “Not our kind of people”
This event made my weekend. :))))))
As an aside, obviously the party had to come to an end after the election, but I do miss his campaign and rallies. High entertainment value indeed!

Great point Centime.
When the President of the US goes on “Face the Nation” and calls it “Deface the Nation”, the rules have changed.
The media waged war and they “woke up a sleeping giant and filled him with terrible resolve”
