Now We’re Talking!

Typing, anyway.

I have figured out a cumbersome way to check for new comments, other than memorizing how many there were on a post the last time you looked.

Way up top, under your browser bar, it should say “Ball Diamond Ball” next to a little house. When you click on that “dashboard” drops down. Clicking on that puts out a menu bar on the left (this also shows up when typing a new post (click on the “visual” tab- upper R on the little window, to get rid of the coding language).  “Comments” shows the latest comments on the blog, who made the comment and which post it is in.

If that doesn’t work, the dashboard shows the most recent 4-6 comments.

Princess bride

That’s not my autobiography. I just had time the other day, so I decided to watch this movie. I imagine everyone not a kid has seen it–because I’ve seen quotes on the internet for more than a dozen years, in the weirdest places. The internet does have that about it–it makes things look universal, but also very dated… The story was pretty funny, but not extraordinary. More on that below. The main takeaway is that I used it make fun of Skip in the PIT. Unfortunately, he’s seen it, too, so he used it to make fun of me. That’s 90 minutes I shan’t get back in a hurry…

Now, the strangest thing about the comedy is that the good guys are full of excellences, but not particularly lawful, whereas the … Continue reading

Ride the Thunder

Read about this movie in our local paper and will go see it next week. Based on the book of the same title.  The trailer looks good: http://www.ridethethundermovie.com/. It’s about time, too.

I take my dad for a pedicure at a Vietnamese owned nail salon. Once, Judy asked if Dad is a veteran. He is but did not serve in Vietnam (although he once told me that he had been on a supply ship for the transports taking people to the south). They are very grateful for what we did, or at least some tried to do, for them.

Looking Around, Pushing Buttons and Flicking Switches

Well, they aren’t really “buttons” are they? For some reason, I’m a “community organizer” for this blog. The rest of you are, for the most part, contributors. I hope that BDB isn’t thinking that I am with no marketable skills like that President guy.

Sooooo, I’m thinking that if we play around at the “dashboard” (click on “Ball Diamond Ball” in the upper left corner for a drop down menu) maybe we’ll get the administrator’s attention and some of his good writing will appear.

Why Mommy and Daddy are Republicans, part 1

This is Chip.

Chip is a beaver, and like most beavers, he knows the value of hard work. Chip’s Mommy and Daddy are Republicans, and they worked very hard to build the place where Chip’s family lives. Chip of course, being a child, has no political affiliation. But he knows what makes sense. Before Chip was even born, his Mommy and Daddy went to the woods on the banks of the river, and felled trees by working very hard, for days on end, until the trees could be brought to the right place. ,

Membership in Decline

Here’s a post from 2007, originally published elsewhere.  This was a topic of discussion on a recent AMU.

Steve Stanton, the City Manager of Largo, Florida, wants to be a woman. Didn’t tell his wife. Didn’t tell his son. Didn’t tell the city. Didn’t tell the voters. But when a local newspaper, er, scooped him, he had to go public. Here’s a quote from his hastily arranged television press conference: “I hope my son isn’t watching.”

Coward.

He has been a very good city manager for years and years. Recently he was publicly rewarded with a salary increase. This doesn’t change the recently revealed basic fact, however, that he is insane. Stark, raving, screaming, cut-off-my-penis-and-call-me-Shirley insane.

Anyone can see that this is a mental illness. If you wanted … Continue reading

Bra Holster Mishap Kills One, Hazards Many

A woman accidentally shot herself, fatally, although she took a full day to die, when she couldn’t adjust her bra holster the way she wanted. This was likely a “Flashbang” brand holster, which is a good product. It fits into women’s carry options in a way that men A) don’t need and B) can’t pull off anyway. Even for concealed carry, guns show through the clothing, or “print” hard on women, who are typically smaller, curvier, and less likely to have unremarkable baggy clothes options. Speaking broadly and frankly, if a man’s pants fit funny, nobody cares.
Check out some of the videos for “Flashbang holster.”  Any product can be used in an unsafe manner.  Flashbangs are still better than a lot of the cheap crap … Continue reading

Redirection Loop Fixed…

Sorry for the trouble — got it nailed.  I finally rolled back all sorts of changes, disabled all plugins, and set permalinks back to the original WordPress 1.0 default style.  Given the nature of caching and cookies, I’m not sure which step along the way actually fixed the problem (dump cookies if you still see the problem and LET ME KNOW).

I’ll leave permalinks alone (it took down my old blog years ago, which really broke my back as a blogger), and work on bringing plugins back online one at a time.  SO if you see the problem again, it should be a VERY short-lived issue, and LET ME KNOW.

Sure Is Hot Over There!

Man, it’s hot over at Ricochet.  Feel free to cool off over here.  TO WHIT — if you’d like to have a discussion about that but not in the middle of all that, I offer the living  room here.

I’ve been a good netizen, not poaching, but I don’t think there’s any problem with picking up strays.  And aren’t we all in that category?
