Sarah Palin: Media Nemesis (2 of 2, er, 2 of 3)

Part 1

Fox on the run

Things are developing even as I write.  Sarah Palin’s bus tour has taken off, with that fox leading a pack of ten to fifteen barking cars of the mainstream media.  MSNBC’s Martin Bashir demands to know what she’s doing, and charges her with violation of federal law for having a flag motif painted on the bus.  CBS’s Ryan Caruso insists that the situation is unsafe, and blames Palin for not telling the media where she’s going.  She rode in front at Rolling Thunder, to which CBS dutifully records the irritation of a few RT office-holders, and this demonstrates the essential divide: CBS is talking to the “national legislative director” for an organization’s … Continue reading

Fukushima Cover-Up Also Leaking

The broad strokes are known, while the details are sketchy.  The cover-up consists of TEPCO and the government issuing a steady stream of tut-tuts and there-theres trying to reassure a populace being poisoned that there’s nothing wrong, or not much, or it’s getting better, or whatever the feel-good phrase of the day is.

The government has been honest in some refreshing ways, but don’t expect cheerleading for only lying part of the time.  There’s a certain amount of half-full, half-empty debate as to how lucky we are that certain aspects of this disaster may have prevented or limited certain other aspects.  That’s great, but with how difficult it is to get straight facts from TEPCO and the government of Japan (which our acronym-loving government refers to as GOJ), … Continue reading

Robert Fisk: The Unbearable Uselessness of Obama

Infamous columnist Robert Fisk has an interesting piece on the uselessness of Obama:

Amid all these vast and epic events – Yemen itself may yet prove to be the biggest bloodbath of all, while the number of Syria’s “martyrs” have now exceeded the victims of Mubarak’s death squads five months ago – is it any surprise that the frolics of Messrs Netanyahu and Obama appear so irrelevant? Indeed, Obama’s policy towards the Middle East – whatever it is – sometimes appears so muddled that it is scarcely worthy of study

Nuclearabia

Germany has announced that it will go nuke-free by the year 2022.  Switzerland by 2034.  On the other hand, France, Spain and the Czech Republic are forging ahead with partnerships and research.  France is set to virtually corner the market on non-military nuclear energy production, research, and technology.  Not that I think the Germans will successfully de-nuclearize.  Economics won’t let them.  I figure the only way they get off nuclear power is if riots over energy prices drag the whole country back in time to the point that they heat their homes with the flaming skulls of their enemies.

At the same time, demographics in France are such that if you have ever wanted to use that high school French you learned, you should probably hurry.  Muslim immigration … Continue reading

Sarah Palin: Media Nemesis (1 of 2)

The MSM accomplished what it set out to do; to destroy Sarah Palin.  In doing so, they have destroyed themselves.

[pullquote]It is this media which brought us Obama and ObamaCare, and any fight against it is a good fight[/pullquote]

The approaching season of politics is an opportunity for Palin to pursue her goal, and I think I know what it is.  She will use the occasion of a Presidential campaign to wreak vengeance upon the media: her campaign or somebody else’s.  Assuming I am correct (humor me), that may sound inappropriate or cynically manipulative, but this is the fight of fights which the right should be engaged in.  While the debt has become the most visible threat to our future, and the totalitarians currently in office are the … Continue reading

Uninformative Infographic Fails Graphically

Wired Magazine published (online anyway) an infographic which is so very uninformative and poorly graphic that I gave it a blast in the comments.  Fearing that the comments could be deleted, I’ll reproduce comment and stunningly bad graph here.  To summarize, the whole point of an infographic is to show a pattern (or lack of a pattern), correlation, or difference which might otherwise be difficult to tease out of data or narrative.  Time-series are famous for being scant on meaningful content, and this is their king:

Who made this awful infographic? Pardon this rant; I won’t pretend to organize it, but then I’m not exactly being paid for this product.

The lurid and uninformative purple broken things and their cramped, decidedly non-logarithmic-scale-friendly background demand the bulk … Continue reading

Marvel, DC Comics: Only American When Profitable

Marvel can go to Hell with DC.

Timed to the upcoming July 22 release of the Captain America: The First Avenger movie — starring Chris Evans as the star-spangled superhero —Marvel Comics is releasing a series of variant covers for its July superhero titles with an “I Am Captain America” theme.

via ‘I Am Captain America’ covers depict real heroes – USATODAY.com.

That would be great except that my memory is a little longer than this. I remember in 2003 when Captain America was was used as a vehicle for pro-terrorist, anti-American propaganda. I also remember Superman’s renunciation of US citizenship, just before we shot bin Laden. Suck it, Supe.

G.I. Joe is no longer an American soldier, but some globalist bullshit. Why must the Communists and … Continue reading

Bad Obama Pix

Remember all the awful pictures of President Bush?  Even when the media was not being blatant, they would show him trying to look dignified on a blustery day or after an awkward question, and side by side or following was a picture of some democrat with a hale and hearty appearance, jaw set and brow stern.  If you pay attention to color balance, even without knowing the exact problem, you could see that there was a problem.  Republicans get cold, washed or peaked colors and balances, while democrats get warm, rich, even treatment.

The right thing for an embattled White House to do  is suffer the slings and arrows of the first amendment, roll with the punches or avoid them if necessary.  At least the Bush administration’s media … Continue reading

Another Reactor Fire in Northeastern Japan

Another fire at a Japanese nuclear plant.  Don’t worry, though:

TEPCO spokesman Naoyuki Matsumoto says there’s no fear of a radiation leak due to the fire.

Thank Heavens TEPCO is here to announce that everything is under control, and that there is nothing to worry about.  Especially radiation.  Whew.

And those of us who criticize, rather than fellate, traditional Japanese management practices are still wa-a-ay off base.  Probably just racists.  Not a management-improving thought in our empty heads.

Note that I am not criticizing the fact that there was a fire.  Accidents happen, and while not at all desirable, are still “in bounds” for management.  I am criticizing the fact the TEPCO has zero credibility left, after decades of consistently lying and covering up problems … Continue reading
