This post reaffirms the intellectual value of this forum and the high honor of its members and I am not just saying that because I am on the payroll – I would say it for free!

A fortnight ago or better our resident Curmudgeon (Reserve Status) posted a comment in a highly intellectual thread about shaving or at least I think it was about shaving. Anyway he recommended I give this fine Italian shave soap a try.

Previously I’d been using The Art of Shaving’s cream at ~2x the price. Today was the inaugural Proraso shave with my Dovo German straight razor (NATO is not obsolete!) and … Continue reading

The Case for Christ

IMG_0069

The movie based on Lee Strobel’s book hits theaters today. The trailer and previews look outstanding and the subject is timely both with respect to Easter approaching and society’s current decline to secular hell.

There seems a trend that in effort to reach mass movie audiences important books are often abridged onto the big screen. Given the importance of the subject I am concerned the movie may not do the book and subject justice so I read the book last week. Apparently I wasn’t paying close attention when downloading the book and purchased a study version of it complete with questions at the end of each chapter, … Continue reading

Told Ya So…

Bend Over, Here It Comes!

I like Trump, but he blew it like you read about. We’ve all known since 2010 that Boehner/Ryan/P.Sessions/McCarthy/Cornyn are a bunch of rent-a-democrats dressed up in Republican suits.

Trump bought their bullshit hook, line, and sinker. His admin is weakened and stained and he has nobody to blame but the guy watching him shave in the mirror tomorrow morning.

Trump ran on repeal and free market replacement. Republicans have both houses primarily because of their promise to repeal the ACA. Republicans had one job: repeal Obamacare. This was a layup, a 6″ putt, etc. just do it.

These clowns couldn’t even start a rock fight, let alone screw one up.

I can’t wait until Aetna, United Health, Blue Whatever are all begging … Continue reading

The Real Deal

My dear friend: Neil “Waylon” Jennings passed away after a long bout with cancer. He passed away on Valentine’s Day and there will be a memorial for him Saturday March 4th. You can read about Waylon at: http://neiljennings.co/. He and I shared a special relationship in that he used to visit on business during the days I was far from God. He had seen enough and asked God to call out to me in an unmistakable way and show me the truth. Thankfully, his prayers were answered 9 years ago.

Waylon was a tremendous author, vivid and transparent. Early in my trading/analysis career he would proofread much of my work along with some of my early Ricochet posts. I am largely the writer I am today thanks to … Continue reading

Love Me Some Dime

Reading the chronicles around here I am concerned that here is some misinterpretation of my love for the 1/10$ Sock Puppet.

Ten Cent and I have been friends including Skype calls, emails, etc. for going on five (5) years I think. Dime was a leader back when Ricochet was more than a digital fainting couch. He is instantly a leader here because of his passion and compassion.

Our history goes back to the first ever worst poster award of which I am the proud recipient and what turned into a fundraising event that helped get Ray and Linda a new ride.

When I am bustin’ Dime’s chops about his random non-use of capitalization that is just a couple of long, cherished, old friends doing what we’ve been doing … Continue reading

More Black Robed Tyrants

Note to Dime, capitalization is a wonderful thing.

A good friend of mine, Tom Selgas, was on the team that argued Heller vs. DC, the landmark 2A case. He sent me the  link to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit regarding the Maryland ‘Assault Weapon’ ban.

The decision hinges on an interesting point, specifically:

We conclude — contrary to the now- vacated decision of our prior panel — that the banned assault weapons and large-capacity magazines are not protected by the Second Amendment. That is, we are convinced that the banned assault weapons and large-capacity magazines are among those arms that are “like” “M-16 rifles” — “weapons that are most useful in military service” — which the Heller Court singled out as being … Continue reading

It’s Not Trump, It’s Congress

Ann Coulter doesn’t get much correct, but when she does, really gets it. From this week’s column:

Where’s the Obamacare repeal? Where are the hearings featuring middle-class Americans with no health insurance because it was made illegal by Obamacare?

The House passed six Obamacare repeals when Obama was president and there was no chance of them being signed into law. Back then, Republicans were full of vim and vigor! But the moment Trump became president, the repeals came to a screeching halt.

No Wartime Consigliere

“The Establishment” is an ephemeral term we, especially me, have used to described the entrenched political class bureaucracy: elected, appointed, and otherwise in Washington DC. I respect in elections past there was room for reasoned debate about the existence and influence of said establishment. However, since January 20th all debate is moot as the forces arrayed against those who propelled Donald Trump to the presidency have cast off their masks and revealed their agenda(s).

The foot dragging of a majority Republican Senate in confirming the President’s reasonable cabinet officers, stalling repeal of the ACA, and now silence while an Obama flunky attorney foments a Constitutional crisis is beyond reproach. Consistent with what we have endured since handing Senatorial power to the feckless Republicans again we are fed excuses … Continue reading
