Thankful Triplet

Good things come in threes.

I have a friend that swears by “the write three things to be thankful for in the morning”. I know it is good to do that but I am not disciplined enough to write it down.

I will go for some quick and easy thanks.

  • Thankful that my mom made it to 91.
  • Thankful that my brother had his birthday. (One brother was lost on his birthday.)
  • Thankful for the BDB crowd. (The good ones.)
  • On a related note, how many of you journal? How many of you don’t?

    Typhoon 18 is Coming

I am in the red circle now. It is raining. Should I go outside and collapse an umbrella?

Yellow means Caution and Red means warning. My part of the country turned red a while back from yellow. It is 12:30 and the storm gets stronger from 6 pm on.

UPDATE: The storm has moved so it will pass right over my Sock Drawer. (I am a little north of the 日 in “1718時” on the Main Island.)

    See, Trolls Cost Money

Here at BDB’s we can’t even afford one troll. I have talked to BDB and wonder if we all pooled our resources we could pay for a part-time troll. I know this is a free site and we can’t have all the dohickeys but maybe a Go-Fund-Page would help. Any idea how much money we need to raise?

I think it would be good to have a job description so that we get our money’s worth. Would you help compiling the Daily Troll Tasks for our Little Man With An Attitude? (This is a generic “Man” we don’t care if it is a “Little Woman”. )

    I’m Being Watched

Psst, don’t look behind you. There is nothing there. It is not that type of watch. It is the kind that Brent has that has “a big hand and a little hand with gloves on it” type.

See, they have watches that for a sideline they tell time. My watch checks to see if my heart is beating. (Pencil, yes some of us are not made of wood with a black core.) Also when I relax and use a couch for it’s intended purpose it has the audacity to tell me to MOVE. If I don’t move there is a bar to tell me what a lazy bum I am. (I don’t need to be told.) I don’t care so much that the watch knows but I am … Continue reading

    Unable to Accept Responsibility

I see this in people who want to to be leaders and/or leadership positions. They think an excuse gets them off the hook. Or good intentions count for good actions.  They throw people under the bus. They think “rain in Seattle” is an unforeseen event. I don’t know whether to be angry at these people or truly feel sorry for them.

The sad/ironic part to these people is they can be intelligent yet stupid. They can analyze the problems in others and fail to see the obvious about themselves. They are like the stars where the field of gravity is too strong and light can’t get out but for them it seems light can’t get in.

I should/want to end this on a positive note. There are wonderful … Continue reading

    Writers Bias

Thomas Sowell is better at describing this than I but there are people who love writing for writing’s sake. Or Nassim Taleb’s “Intellectual Yet Idiots” is another way to say it. They feel a need to foist their opinions on us but no obligation to have responsibility for those beliefs.

I do like reading good stuff so writers are necessary. What I appreciate are people who produce and then write. The writing is the cart not the horse. Or I am saying if the writing comes first it doesn’t go far. For example I love the musings of a certain former software CEO who learned from life and then shared those lessons.

How does one get people with great ideas to write more and people with loose … Continue reading

    Philosophical Questions

How does one fairly label people?

Does a person become part of a group by saying they are part of a group or do they become part of the group by actually following the positions of the group? For example when does a person stop being part of the Conservative, Libertarian, Liberal, or [your pick ism]? Do we need to add adjectives to delineate between the groups?

If say 10% of the group does terrible things can you say the whole group is like this? (Especially if the larger part of the group does not denounce them.) If say 10% is good can the whole group claim goodness?

I like this story for death defying logic.
