Anniversary of the Moon Landing

Today is the 48th anniversary of the landing of Apollo 11 on the moon. Arthur Clarke and Robert Heinlein discuss it:

One of the striking aspects of the discussion was the universal optimism among the participants. Even Cronkite was unwavering, saying, “You can’t stop progress, and this is progress… We stop a lot of other things. It can’t be done.” Which member of the media would make such a statement today?

Wait. The media are all about progress being progressives. So the question is: how do we stop them?

Funny you should mention that. Yesterday I posted something on Ricochet about the reinvention of “liberals” as “progressives.” In Walter Cronkite’s day, the Left were liberals and “progress” was associated with technological and industrial progress that was favored by almost everyone. That has changed, especially with the rise of the greenies. Date its genesis from the first Earth Day or the establishment of the EPA. Both were after 1969.

How to stop them? Do what Dave Rubin does: call them the Regressive Left. As an ex-progressive, he would know.

The things we could do then but can’t now. Drive without seat belts to the drive-in movie to enjoy a double feature while having a relaxing smoke. Let the kids play outside, unsupervised, at night. Ride a bike — hell, even a motorcycle — without wearing a dumb looking helmet. Oh yeah, and go to the moon!
