Diplomacy, Branding Style

So we have a video at the link of  the President’s granddaughter singing a song in Mandarin, for the Chinese audience.

Let that sink in a bit.

To position America to the Chinese population, he set up this as the face forward.

We will either become wary cooperators with China for mutual interest or we are in for a very rough time.  They are not going away.

This is even better than ping pong.

Save us from professional diplomats.

I read an account of this, that the Chinese audiences who have seen little Arabella singing their folklore are effusive in their praise and touched by this performance. I think after the video was shown at a dinner, Trump followed it up by saying something like ‘often our children are best at showing us our shared humanity.’ I think it’s more of a hit than an ipod full of his speeches.

POTUS is a showman par excellance.

What a powerful demonstration that the Trump family recognizes the importance China will play in the global economy for the rest of this century. This wins friends and goodwill for President Trump; I just hope he knows what he is doing.

There is little question that China could play a major role in the global marketplace. It only has to choose to do so. Being a bully will not get it done.

An absolutely great way would be to topple Fat Boy, turn over NK to SK to reorganize and rework Korea, then be their main trading partner. They could easily replace us as that. THAT would be a great move, an establishing their economic empire, muting our influence, and showing grace and justice.

    Prob’ly nevah happen.

Try this one on for size- China adopts NK like Hong Kong- they begin to intertwine the economy of the north with the south and extend their influence with SK.

The only solution to NK I can see is for China to own it. A Chinese protectorate that is economically linked to SK is their best deal.

Our best deal is to make that happen in a way that preserves SK independence.

OK. But my sense is that if China did that, the rest of SE Asia would immediately bolt for whatever cover they can find.

    • TKC1101TKC1101 says:

Not sure. The rest of Asia already thinks NK is a juvenile delinquent Chinese protectorate that misbehaves. A well mannered Chinese protectorate would be a welcome addition.

  6. DevereauxDevereaux says:

Still, it makes China look like USSR vis a vis Germany. China could improve things with an improved NK, but it will never amount to much. China would not be willing to invest what it would take; SK would, as Germany did. So with someone else’s money they get gratitude AND a great trading partner – and lose all the money they are currently dumping down that rathole.
