Debasing the Language with PC BS

[dc]H[/dc]ere’s an innocent enough quote, the source of which I will not reveal.  It’s from the training materials for a large company’s products.

A brainstorming session with another person is often useful in this phase, particularly if that person is capable of constantly providing alternative viewpoints during discussions. (In many countries, this person would be described as being good at playing the Devil’s advocate).  The analysis phase often benefits from two types of people, one of whom has excellent technical knowledge of the product, and another that constantly requires the first person to justify their thoughts and to think both logically and laterally.

This is just awful.  See how many layers of wrapping there are on the phrase “Devil’s advocate”?   Here’s the simplest correction; call this the … Continue reading

Tea Party the Real Enemy

[dc]O[/dc]h, it’s on.

“Let us all remember who the real enemy is. The real enemy is the Tea Party — the Tea Party holds the Congress hostage. They have one goal in mind, and that’s to make President Obama a one-term president,” Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-FL) said at a Miami town hall with constituents.

Rep. Frederica Wilson blamed “racism” for the high black unemployment rate on MSNBC yesterday.

Yes, the Tea Party is the real enemy.  Not because you’re black, and not because you’re a Democrat.  Because you are a Marxist, race-baiting, hazard to the freedom of all Americans, black or white, Republican or Democrat.

Search the rubble left by every “austerity” program in the developed world, from Greece to London, and you’ll find burning cars and riot … Continue reading

I Am Fine

For those who might find me here first, I most definitely felt it, with no ill effects.  It was quite noticeable.  I am about 30 or 40 miles from the epicenter.  I was in a 3rd floor office building, and of course wea ll got up and walked to the window to see what was going on.  There was a low ominous rumbling, and the building shook rapidly in a strangely restrained way, for a long, long time.  Perhaps over a minute of constant shaking, which is an eternity when you’re waiting for the real quake to begin.

Everybody kind of figured it was an earthquake, but it really kept seeming like a large vehicle going by, uh, down the hallway.  A bit of disorientation, until we finally … Continue reading

Political Judo

[dc]W[/dc]hat if the president finds it agreeable to guarantee the safety of his programs by installing an apparently moderate Democrat?  If Obama steps aside, we Republicans fling ourselves at the wall.   Would he be able to transform his own personal unpopularity into yet another weapon for whacking the slow-footed and timid GOP?  We need to be prepared for the staged emergence of a moderate Democrat to deflate all our puffed-up rage at the Communist incumbent.

Think it couldn’t happen?  Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and President Obama have all demonstrated their willingness to sacrifice much for their progressive goals.  Obama has already spokenopenly, several times, of being a one-term president.  The way in which he does so is not familiar to … Continue reading

Paul Ryan Not Running For President At This Juncture

[dc]I[/dc]t wouldn’t be prudent. Well, I suppose it was going to go this way anyway.

Brilliant conservative Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) told the Weekly Standard today that he has decided not to run for president this year.

via Rep. Paul Ryan Is Not Running For President | The Gateway Pundit.

I won’t feign surprise, and as much as I wanted him to run, I must confess that at least some of that was a poke in flaming lidless eye of Obama.  Beside that, however, an excellent National Review editorial had me leaning rather solidly into Candidate Ryan territory.

Republicans cannot afford to nominate anyone other than their best and brightest — and the best and brightest can’t afford to sit it out. The fate of Obamacare, and … Continue reading

Laura Ingraham vs. Charlie Rangel: Internal Squabble

[dc]R[/dc]ightScoop calls out Ingraham for her RINO ambush (audio cued up, ready to go, at that link) of Bachmann just before the debt ceiling disaster vote.

If you think I’m wrong, I bet you back away from that after listening to Ingraham being just plain nasty to Bachmann.  The week before she went after Bachmann (so three weeks ago), she high-centered herself trying to drain support for Rep. West!

Rangel is a turd, but I have come completely off the Laura wagon over her badgering of Michele Bachmann two weeks ago.  It may be fun to watch Rangel get beaten about the head and shoulders (it may be VERY fun), but this is just Ingraham’s motormouth abuse schtick.

[pullquote]merely provocative, uninformative style of debate[/pullquote]

I very much … Continue reading

El Gobernador Rick Perez

Texican Governor Rick Perry, in a speech ten years ago:

We must say to every Texas child learning in a Texas classroom, “we don’t care where you come from, but where you are going, and we are going to do everything we can to help you get there.” And that vision must include the children of undocumented workers. That’s why Texas took the national lead in allowing such deserving young minds to attend a Texas college at a resident rate. Those young minds are a part of a new generation of leaders, the doors of higher education must be open to them. The message is simple: educacion es el futuro, y si se puede.

If the Tea Party were the GOP

Michele Bachmann says she’ll bring back $2/gal gas.  I believe her.  CNN snickeringly informs us that she’s all wet, but it’s CNN that doesn’t understand how marginal effects and market confidence work.  But enough of that.  I’m here to pick a different fight.

If Michele Bachmann were to be elected, and then try to wriggle off of the hook using GOP tactics as gas went through $5, it would sound like this:

Well, when I made that promise, gas was $3.79, and a reduction to $2 gas would be a $1.79 savings.  If it were not for the measures I have implemented, gas would already have risen past $8, so $5 gas is a $3 savings; you people are just ingrateful, and your criticism is unwelcome.

Anybody … Continue reading
