Man, I’m tired. I’ve been clipping along at work, back to wa-a-ay long days on a project I like a lot, and whacked a test on Tuesday. Only missed one question on the ITIL V3 Foundation exam. I resisted the urge to stomp and glower while muttering and swearing about having missed a question, as the other guy finished and failed, and the third guy was visibly agitated as he kept plugging away. So I’m good for ITIL something or other. Thanks Knikki!
I also took the ITIL Service Operations class offered by HP a few weeks ago, and have the test for that coming up soon. The place I work is implementing improvements along the ITIL lines, and running us through these courses. So it feels darned good to be on a glideslope toward a frameworked goal, and we even seem to be converging rather well on the first steps in implementing what is typically described as a five-year project. Bite-sized chunks.
My brilliant database idea is to knock off all the complex many-to-many “linking” tables which are just capturing facts for the sake of time-stamping them, and go to a right-now-only model, with (ta-da!) triggers to poke previous facts into history tables shadowing the real-time ones. That ought to unload not only my front-end, but also the software which writes the front end for me, and which I am constantly having to re-train to match my concept, which has needed work for quite some time, it seems.
I’m positively morose on the political front. We stand a pretty good chance of “shellacking” Obama right out of there next November, but I have ZE-RO faith in even our own folks to undo the damage that has come to a head. Like boiling an egg, it will not be enough simply to remove the heat. The egg keeps cooking in its shell, and the damage this administration will cause has only just begun. They have put in place a generation of employees and appointees who range from nakedly political pot-bangers to quiet rule-writers, but they are frothing radicals. It is a legitimate matter of debate whether the lawless depredations of this adminstration can be reversed without similar lawlessness. Shall the successor simply fire whole tranches of employees? It will make Reagan firing PATCO look like Aunt Mae giving her concerned look. We are well and truly forked, and that’s IF we elect a real conservative.
But that’s not likely to happen. Although it was heartening to see the attempt at a defense of Herman Cain against bias-based smear attacks from the media, because the GOP has no expertise in defending conservatives, the efforts in this direction were furtive, hesitant, and at any rate swiftly abandoned. Rick Perry might be a great guy, but we’ll never know, because he has that moron named Rick Perry on his staff confusing and infuriating his own base. Jackass. And Newt! Newt Gingrich, the man who brought us the Clinton impeachment, the magnificent Contract with America, and the phrase “Federal chipmunk” from a great speech a decade ago–that guy won’t make it either. So I’m calling it now for Romney unless Ron Paul re-elects Obama.
Maybe it’s time to just spark up a fat hooch and roll on down to Zuccotti park. They have all sorts of women you can grope and the media doesn’t even care, how about that? They’ll ask me what I did, and I’ll tell them that I worked for the government during the Obama administration. Then while they’re trying to figure out what that means, I’ll swipe their dope and yell “Double Rainbow!”
Peace.
