I understand that he feels there is some justification for what he did — I have read it.\u00a0 He puts it in the context of soothing the excitable Chinese — he feels that he was doing real ‘Missiles of October’ stuff, mil-to-mil contacts avoiding war by mistake.\u00a0 That’s noble.\u00a0 But there is still a right way to do things. I\u00a0 would have one question for him: “Did you tell your boss what you said about him to the enemy?” \u00a0 The rest follows from there, and may be left as an exercise for the reader.<\/p>\n
I understand feeling torn between, on the one hand, your ultimate loyalty to the Constitution and on the other hand, your duty to render fidelity to your chain of command.\u00a0 These things are not always perfectly aligned.<\/p>\n
