The behind-the-curtain intensity of the battle was evident Friday, as Lewis described her meeting with Emanuel in the mayor\u2019s office a few weeks ago. Sitting next to her in a chair in front of his desk, the mayor talked about adding 90 minutes to the school day, saying \u201cI can\u2019t have kids on the street at 2:15,\u201d Lewis recalled.<\/p>\n
\u201cI called out what he was doing had nothing to do with education,\u2019\u2019 Lewis said. She said she told him, \u201cSo this is not about education. This is about safety. … This is babysitting and warehousing.\u201d<\/p>\n
At that point, the \u201ccraziness\u201d began, Lewis said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe [Emanuel] got up out of his chair and started cussing at me.\u201d Pressed for the language, Lewis said the mayor told her, \u201cF— you, Lewis\u201d and dropped other \u201cf-bombs.\u201d<\/p>\n
