Michele Bachmann says she’ll bring back $2\/gal gas.\u00a0 I believe her.\u00a0 CNN snickeringly informs us<\/a> that she’s all wet, but it’s CNN that doesn’t understand how marginal effects and market confidence work.\u00a0 But enough of that.\u00a0 I’m here to pick a different fight.<\/p>\n

If Michele Bachmann were to be elected, and then try to wriggle off of the hook using GOP tactics as gas went through $5, it would sound like this:<\/p>\n

Well, when I made that promise, gas was\u00a0$3.79, and a reduction to $2 gas would be a $1.79 savings.\u00a0\u00a0If it were not for the measures I have implemented, gas would already have risen past $8, so $5 gas is a $3 savings; you people are just ingrateful, and your criticism is unwelcome.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Anybody can do this.\u00a0 It’s Obama’s pet accounting trick for inventing savings.\u00a0 His ridiculous January (?) budget submission was so outlandish that not even a single Democrat voted for it when push came to shove at the Senate.\u00a0 That’s right, 97-0.\u00a0 But now he gets to call it a baseline against which all of his ruinous spending increases look like cuts.\u00a0 We expect this from the Commiecrats, but we will not accept it from the GOP.\u00a0<\/p>\n

By the way, we certainly do not expect this sort of thing from Michele Bachmann, which is why I use her achievable, verifiable example of a campaign promise to make this point.\u00a0 She has enough integrity that Tim Pawlenty’s attack on her ended his campaign.<\/p>\n
