{"id":4858,"date":"2017-12-29T17:20:07","date_gmt":"2017-12-29T08:20:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/balldiamondball.com\/blog\/?p=4858"},"modified":"2017-12-29T17:20:07","modified_gmt":"2017-12-29T08:20:07","slug":"conservatism-inc-is-crumbling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/balldiamondball.com\/blog\/conservatism-inc-is-crumbling\/","title":{"rendered":"Conservatism, Inc. is crumbling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Starting after the 2010 mid-terms, there was a growing, angry group of people on the Right that began to abandon conventional conservatism because they perceived that the big personalities of the Right didn&#8217;t actually want to accomplish Right-Wing results; they just wanted to sell books, cruises, and do fundraisers. In other words, Conservatism, Inc. This group of people grew larger and larger, eventually rejecting &#8220;establishment Republicans&#8221;, and forming the core of voters that elected Donald Trump to the White House. Since Trump&#8217;s nomination (and victory) those people have seen a steady stream of examples that their suspicions were correct: it was all just a bunch of hucksters that wanted your money, and when the chips were down, they&#8217;re not really that conservative at all. National Review&#8217;s Against Trump stance (and loss of readership base), the big guns at Ricochet sneering about Trump, Jennifer Rubin&#8217;s descent into hysteria, etc etc.<\/p>\n<p>The latest example is &#8220;national security expert&#8221; Max Boot&#8217;s coming out of the closet story:<a href=\"http:\/\/foreignpolicy.com\/2017\/12\/27\/2017-was-the-year-i-learned-about-my-white-privilege\/\"> he now says that Trump has made him see and renounce his &#8220;white privilege&#8221;.\u00a0 <\/a>\u00a0(&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/foreignpolicy.com\/2017\/12\/27\/2017-was-the-year-i-learned-about-my-white-privilege\/\"><\/a>I used to be a smart-alecky conservative who scoffed at \u201cpolitical correctness.\u201d The Trump era has opened my eyes.&#8221;). Boot was your standard media Neocon before this: &#8220;War with Iran is inevitable, buy my books!&#8221;. Now he&#8217;s <em>Woke<\/em>, and you can expect a steady stream of Leftist gibberish from the guy in the coming years.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Me, I consider this progress. I&#8217;m hoping that the Kevin Williamsons, Rick Wilsons, etc, also renounce their white privilege&#8230; or whatever CultMarx trope they wish to embrace as their escape pod&#8230; and get on with the admission that &#8220;Hey, I was just trying to sell books. I mean, I was NEVER one of <em>those people<\/em>&#8220;. The sooner we cast off the baggage of Conservatism, Inc., the better. Conservatism, as we&#8217;ve know it since the end of the 60&#8217;s, has never really conserved anything. That&#8217;s why people are leaving it. If there is to be a genuine conservatism&#8230; one more concerned with American people, culture, traditions, and faith&#8230; it&#8217;s going to have to grow outside this moldy sales pitch for subscriptions and cruises and TV talking heads. There&#8217;s an old lawyer joke; &#8220;what do you call 500 lawyers at the bottom of a lake? A good start&#8221;.
