I ran across the following post while grazing in fields of elder PC nostalgia. \u00a0 I was going to explain to somebody the difference between stream-oriented and object-oriented text editors.<\/p>\n

But never mind that. \u00a0I also got to think that I would like to showcase the post at another site where I am but a \u00a0lowly commenter with post rights to a scrum feed. \u00a0Except this [cryout-pullquote align=”left|center|right” textalign=”left|center|right” width=”33%”]There must be more to writing than simply stockpiling opinions[\/cryout-pullquote]didn’t really seem to fit in over there, so I though I would put it up over here. \u00a0I worried that it didn;t fit in quite right here either, and if you;re going to run a purpose-fpcused blog, you need some discipline.<\/p>\n

But never mind that. \u00a0If I’m going to run a blog at all, there should be a community, so that I (and others, bonus!) are not simply writing for the ages. \u00a0There must be more to writing than simply stockpiling opinions so that James of England at another site doesn’t call me a liar for not producing proof of the obvious. \u00a0So perhaps a blog split into a Community effort and a Projects effort (I always envisioned projects). \u00a0This post then would go into the community side.<\/p>\n

But never mind that. \u00a0I finally understand how to organize the top-level of categories. \u00a0Categories are hierarchical, whereas tags are not. \u00a0This is a key difference, and most blogs (it has been said) are using them backwards. \u00a0I realized some time ago that I had my tags\/cats all messed up on my main blog, and have never gone in and gotten that stuff sorted. \u00a0That blog is kind of a ruin now, with several episodes of “gotta put a fig leaf on for the boss” convincing me to move most of the juicy stuff behind a privacy wall for eventual sorting. \u00a0And you know what happens to tasks with “maybe someday” written on them. \u00a0I used to write with passion and beauty.<\/p>\n

But ever mind that. \u00a0This fellow is on to something<\/a>. \u00a0It’s only a short blog post, but those are the most effective, so good on him. \u00a0I’ll use only a short quote.<\/p>\n

this kid endlessly defends the honor of the PlayStation 3 because that’s what his parents got him for Christmas, and he can’t afford to also have an Xbox<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

But never mind that. \u00a0He’s actually writing about media bias, and he makes the case better than he might realize.<\/p>\n
