The US deficit reduction plan makes no sense \u2013 until you remember who\u2019s behind the Tea Party movement.<\/p>\n

There are two ways of cutting a deficit: raising taxes or reducing spending. Raising taxes means taking money from the rich. Cutting spending means taking money from the poor. Not in all cases of course: some taxation is regressive; some state spending takes money from ordinary citizens and gives it to banks, arms companies, oil barons and farmers. But in most cases the state transfers wealth from rich to poor, while tax cuts shift it from poor to rich.<\/p>\n
So the rich, in a nominal democracy, have a struggle on their hands. Somehow they must persuade the other 99% to vote against their own interests: to shrink the state, supporting spending cuts rather than tax rises. In the US they appear to be succeeding.<\/p>\n

What this motivated liar fails to mention is that the Tea Party hates this damned debt deal. \u00a0We are the only ones who have opposed every facet of this piece of shit deal. \u00a0What a bunch of crap. \u00a0Yes, George, I’m afraid that’s as sophisticated as this is going to get.<\/p>\n
One thing that these lurid Marxist tales have in common is the lack of an actual mechanism for the wretched effects to proceed from the vile deeds they decry. \u00a0Unlike, say the bulletproof simplicity of political pandering in a series of acts which created, out of thin air, the housing bubble. \u00a0How a person can believe in the concept of “predatory lending” yet deny the impetus to do so when banks were required BY LAW to knowingly make bad loans, boggles the mind. \u00a0This cognitive dissonance is a core feature of the current Marxist apologia. \u00a0If you require banks to engage in a sure loss, then they are forced to engage in other behavior which is excessively risky in order to REDUCE the average exposure to risk in their portfolio.<\/p>\n
Because Mr. Monbiot is somewhere between reflexive Keynesian and Marxist, he sees capitalists behind the Tea Party. \u00a0Big ones. \u00a0Anti-semites see Jews behind it. \u00a0Greens see globalists behind it. \u00a0It’s the Bilderbergers, the Masons, the CIA, the Nazis, the Communists, the grammar-obsessed…<\/p>\n
