So I saw the new Star Wars movie. Meh. There were good things about it and things that I didn’t like so much. More on that sort of thing later. Meanwhile, the movie is a walk-away break with the misery of the threequels. It’s worth seeing if you’re so inclined. On the other hand, if you don’t really care about Star Wars, you’re not missing anything.
J. J. Abrams has delivered us from the idiot George Lucas. Huzzah! Whatever.

So it occurs to me that putting spoilers in the comments may still show up, depending on the view you’re using. What do you think?
Not going to see it so spoil away. Though Titus might be the best one to do that ;-).
Haven’t seen TT about, lately…Maybe this’ll coax him? :-)
Mebbe. Titus looks for serious political comments. But movies do move him – in strange ways.
Haven ‘t seen it and probably will go see it, if for no other reason than it’s Star Wars. So perhaps I won’t visit this thread until after I’ve seen it.
Well, we went as a family yesterday afternoon, after a big brunch and opening all the gifts. Seems a lot of other people had the same idea, but we got there JUST in time to be able to pick our seats nicely.
I liked it. It’s a throwback to the old, original Star Wars (Episode 4 – the first movie released). The plot was a bit thin, sort of recycled, but that’s OK. Good action. And all the old actors are back also.
I saw it with a work buddy. We both thought it was Star Wars: The Search for Spock.
Lots to like in this, and I definitely recommend it. I think J. J. Abrams took the required time to bring the story A) back down to a manageable size, and B) to emphatically and decisively reject almost everything in the three horrible “prequels”.
Mercifully, there is no mention of Gungans, the Senate, or midichlorians. it is a Star Wars movie, apparently leaning on a Star Trek plot to break cleanly from the dreck that George Lucas spewed for a decade.
Good movie!
Not as much of a Star Trek guy, so I don’t really know all the ST movies.
But I would wholly agree that it went back to the good old “western in space” idea. I am not sure just where the storm trooper conscription came about. I had thought that they were clones before, but I am hardly enough of an expert to speak to that.
But overall it was good. New actors with the old as tie-ins. I expect to see the old progressively eliminated – kind of to make way for the “new” Force.
As an aside, don’t know why, but the little lady that ran the bar reminded me of Helen Hunt, who I like a lot.
Saw it today. fun but corny. The little lady that ran the bar reminded me of Linda Hunt (as Billy Kwan in “The Year of Living Dangerously”).
