The Main Street Economy

The year is ending in a big flurry of economic activity, the main street kind. The learned elites sense it from retail sales, but there is more tangible stuff going on.

I just helped a client buy a new commercial van. The dealers are selling out of inventory and are scrambling as businesses rush to replace aging fleets. I had to give an order to a dealer across a mountain range to get the model   needed, as all others were sold out.

Housing and commercial extension  new construction is hitting a pace not seen in decades. Wages are rising for skilled labor.

The halfway house for felons are having no trouble finding jobs these days. All they have to do is show up sober and work is there.

Companies are paying bonuses and increasing their percentage for group health insurance to keep people.

People who work with their hands and hearts are seeing growth in prospects for the first time in their lives.

Being older than dirt, I forget that none of these people remember the JFK tax cuts, or the Reagan tax cuts and the boom they kicked off.

I am seeing a sense of excitement, pride, and amazement  on faces that have never seen the America I know. It is a most wonderful time of the year.

Mix plentiful energy supply  plus aging capital stock across the board in public and private assets with a workforce that gets a taste of higher wages plus overtime and watch the fun begin.

I expect the new plants to be built in red and some newly purple states. I bet the blue ones will be avoided like the plague for new investment.

I am thinking the areas in the blue states outside the urban enclaves should start “Business Sanctuary Counties” and ask the Federal executive for protection from State sponsored economic terrorists. Sounds like a homeland security issue to me.

A friend bought a motor home solely with the increase in his investments over the last few months. So much winning!

Coincidentally, when I was at the Ford dealer last week they sent two guys to Albany to pick up a Transit.
