Beef and Whine

I am encouraged by the comments on our Radio Free Ricochet post.  I go back and forth on some of the overarching issues on how to handle things at times.  This website well pre-dates its function as a relief valve or safe harbor for Ricochetti.  That is not its manifest purpose, but it is a welcome opportunity to take care of friends.  As such, we’re not founded here on complaining about others.  This is not verizoneatspoop.com, which was a real website years ago.

One thing that most of us do have in common is a set of viewpoints or an approach to discourse which is not exactly welcome over there.  This is more than an accident — we are largely self-selected for this trait.  Yet it is not the whole of why we are here.  I make no claim to objectivity in which stripe of bomb-tossers get through the door here.  My kind of people get in, and so far that has served me well.  I respectfully submit that it serves us well.

We also share an appreciation for a more focused conservatism, and an impatience (to put it mildly) with the GOP’s business-as-usual, no-fight-today, try-again-tomorrow approach.  We’re effin’ done with it, and don’t mind breaking some dishes.

There is a line between beef and whine, and I am glad to see folks hashing things out.  Frequently, I take my cues from you guys as much as I give them.  It’s a group and I’m glad to be part of it.  I would not want this site in the aggregate to become a “stalker site” where we all just dump trash on the ex’s lawn.  That’s a misread of the situation, and not healthy anyway.  At the same time, I want folks, particularly those with recent wounds, to feel welcome to spill beans over here.

Venting seems reasonable.  Obsessing, not so much.  I’m not so much interested in issues over there as I am concerned for people and their issues.  Somewhere at the intersection of addictive behavior and a sense of community lies an internet forum’s power to trap a mind.  I don’t want to take too therapeutic an approach to things, but at the same time, I want people who need space and a good beef session to know they can do it here.

I think in the main you have gotten the bomb-throwers. Which I totally concur with. It is time for grenades, not sniper shots. Take out sections, not one by one. The enemy has been winning too long.

Thanks for clarifying your direction on this. The old place pops up every once in a while and I am always leery of how to handle it.

I agree we should not ignore it, but also it should not be the reason for this site.

You have gathered the free thinkers who tend to be liberty loving and individualistic. We are far from the same , but are oriented roughly around the same heading.

Ricochet did teach me one thing. I learned how far out I was of the elitist garble that ‘conservativism inc.” had become.

    Can’t we have both?

Oh, never mind. I thought the post was about beef and wine. I like a bold red with a medium rare steak (actually, more rare than medium), though I’d consider a hearty stout instead.

I am shaking Ricochet dust off my feet and moving in here. I got permanently banned from that site, without ever violating their vaunted Code of Conduct.
I started lurking in earnest at BDB in midsummer after it became clear to me that my time there was going to be limited, and y’all are really good fun.

Welcome to the place where the cool kids hang, MJB.

Other than me and Dime we have good people here. Glad you are joining us.

If you don’t mind my asking, just what in the world would get you permanently banned, especially without violating the vaunted “code”.

Personally I left long before there was any question of banning. When they banned Simon, I figured it was time to leave this bucket. Been thrown out of better places, as the line goes.

unbelievable! MJB, I can’t begin to comprehend that. But glad to see you here!

  7. JJJJ says:

Yes, I am glad to see you here as well, MJB!

I wonder still sometimes about how certain thoughts of mine would be received at R. The Happy Warriors are under siege and I’m backing off for personal sanity. So glad to see others here who are less than welcome there. When the Rabble Alliance was assaulted, well, that was really the day the music died.

So, you welcome a little venting, eh? Mine is not about R, but rather “immigration”. Details coming soon…

After I saw the dustup at R I was hoping to see you MJB here. Welcome.
