Here is a brain teaser:
- EPA and Interior Dept fire half their scientist advisors to “Clean house from Obama”
- Coal mining comes back
- Water and land use regulations are pared back
- Ivanka will lead the Paris Climate Accord review
Please find the thing that is not like the others: No looking at your neighbors answer….
I am seeing the normal conservative hair shirt kneejerk when Trump does something symbolic despite concrete actions taking place. Ivanka terrifies the right and pisses off the left. A great camouflage player.
Get used to symbolic dissonance. The President does not care about verbal integrity, just results.
If we kiss the Paris Climate accords but make noises about reserving the right to modify the impact, it is just words, as sincere as the ‘commitments’ of China and India to hit their reduction targets. Symbolic but maybe necessary to give some allies maneuvering room with their constituents.
Not all ideology needs to be confronted all the time. Sometimes you nod and ignore it.
His opposition will now wonder if he will “Go Green” after all and they are now confused. Meanwhile, we will be drilling, mining and pumping gas. Muscle cars are being sold. (Dodge is selling an 840 HP single seat Charger in 2018). 60% of the vehicles sold in the US in March were pickup trucks and SUVs.
All that is fine as long as we make nice noises to Paris. Liberals really are easily fooled by ceremony, as much as conservatives are obsessive about verbal consistency.
The brass ring this year is a big cut in corporate taxes, especially for small business. If they have to sugar coat it with corporate pledges for large companies to repatriate jobs and have action plans for hiring American, the Democrats will have a very hard time fighting it. In fact , it should be called the “Hire America Act of 2017”.

“Ivanka terrifies the right and pisses off the left. A great camouflage player.”
Why do you always… just… get it?
It is a curse. I once did not give proper deference to a shaman , or maybe it was the GOP county chairman and Oldsmobile dealer.
Was Chelsea or a Gore child busy?
Karenna Gore Schiff is an impressive woman in her own right but just doesn’t have Ivanka’s glamour quotient or that “Je ne sais quoi.”
I also like the fact that Ivanka started her own company as she was successfully running a division of Trump Intntl, converted to Orthodox Judaism without batting an eye and gave birth to three children.
No wonder the Left hates her.
And a looker to boot. ?Ever notice that all the lib women look like the Wicked Witch of the North and the conservative ones are knock-outs.
This is so true. The question is, which way does the causality run?
ugly & bitter –> leftists
or
leftists –> ugly & bitter
I vote for option #1. When you’re attractive and happy, you don’t become an Alinskyite.
You’re probably right, it’s mostly option 1. I think it runs both ways. Lefty girls stop taking care of themselves, get fat, get nose rings, get tats all over, etc. because the narrative says it’s OK to do so. Reality is not their strong suit.
If a girl has tats and can’t watch the calories, that tells me all I need to know. I would never hire her.
Vanity is a very underrated quality.
Ivanka really drives the left mad because in their mind anyone that good looking must agree with them. It destroys their whole worldview. The ones that think know that Gen X women and younger identify with her and there is nothing they can do about it.
Their attempts to destroy her backfire with the very women they need to attract.
Some of us Boomers relate to her as well because she is so effortlessly elegant and accomplished. She was blessed with two special parents that raised Ivanka and her two brothers well.
Little is said about Ivana but she ran the renovation of the infamous Plaza Hotel quite successfully and was an Olympic skier for the Czech Republic in her youth.
The Trump kids have good genes.
Keep ’em distracted while doing the people’s business. The chattering classes can jump from tweet to tweet with outrage while new federal judges are appointed and the bureaucracy is cleaned up.
Tweets for the twits and action for us. It works for me.
You got it, Doc. Quantum Distraction. Act one way, move another. Spooky action at a distance.
Whatever happened to the demographic that admires beauty, education, and success? Isn’t this what we were all raised to strive for?
Yep. Our age is showing. . .
I’m afraid you are absolutely correct, MLH.
Admiration of beauty , brains and success is antithetical to identity politics.
One set of elites wants the masses to be breeding stock, determined by their genes and culled as necessary. No individuality wanted. We are all our race, class and heritage.
The rest want to be wild mustangs roaming free.
If you have the Three B’s (beauty, brains, bountiful background), you’ve got the freedom to roam as freely as a Mustang. And no car was cooler than a ’64 Ford Mustang.
My forty year old aunt got the first one off the line and I frankly revere her to this day!
I just got done listening to Klavan’s podcast today in which he had Mona Charen as his guest. Painful, I know.
It comes down to this: she grudgingly acknowledges some good things Trump has done but she just can’t stand *the tone.* When Klavan asked her to name the worst things Trump has done so far… well, let me just copy the comment I left:
According to Mrs. Charen, the worst aspects of the Trump administration so far are
– some assistant- and deputy-level cabinet positions haven’t been filled yet and
– the tweets!!!
Seriously? That’s it? That’s the best you’ve got?
I love the tweets more than anything because they disenfranchise the gatekeepers!!!

And they hate it!
