House Passes “ObamaCare Repeal and Replace”

Well, now that we’ve passed it, perhaps we can see what’s in it.  Oh, and the Senate takes it next.

My guess is that nothing has been repealed, and we’re going to tinker with the damned thing.

    This repeals exactly nothing.

The definition of a Shame: Bus load of Republicans going off a cliff with a few empty seats.

Does it keep the pre-existing-conditions-won’t-cost-you-more provision? WTH is INSURANCE?

Reality is that the Dems took private insurance and welded Medicaid to it.

Uncoupling those will not be easy and take many steps.

Pre-existing conditions were covered for everyone in groups for years, the issue was always the individual market.

I understand they decouple the pre existing condition funding from the insurance and make it a risk pool funded by the taxpayers. Just like all welfare. At least it begins to decouple insurance to a freer market.

You want to repeal Medicaid? I recommend not unless you want to hand the country back to the Dems in 2018.

THis is a mess, but fixing a mess is never clean.

Does it help your base? Looks like it so far.

The day the States created insurance commissions was the end of the free market in insurance. Whatever gets us closer to selling real actuarial insurance nationwide gets my vote.

The mandate repeal at states discretion will make premiums drop in states that participate and put the Blue States on the defensive. It is very good long term politics.

    My worry is the Senate.

My worry is the American people. They have gotten accustomed to government healthcare. Now it will be hell-to-pay to get rid of it.

Maybe you are right. I think people see little difference between govt run and oligopoly insurance run health care pricing, with State insurance commissions restricting access and stifling real competition.

Now real free market , where I trade a live chicken for my MRI with anyone I care to trust, maybe time to try that.

The Curmudgeon (Reserve Status) always has good words on this topic.

I may not always agree, but I read and consider.

Interestingly, my OTHER observation is that people applying to medical school aren’t what they use to be. But then, neither is medicine.

    • MLHMLH says:

Don’t they want to help people anymore? What is the change you see?

  6. DevereauxDevereaux says:

Not as bright. There is also a HUGE emphasis on making money. Some of that is because the government has made it such a jumping through hoops.

    • MLHMLH says:

If I were a betting gal, I’d bet they are bright just the the Dept of Ed has dumbed down education sooooo much.

As for making money, my dad’s PCP is Canadian, came to the States so that he could actually practice medicine and is, well, a bit upset at how things are going. He’s now palliative/hospice with a very good balance of practicality and compassion.
