Jonestown This Morning?

I didn’t watch the speech last night, but the reviews look good.

I just pray the NeverTrumpers are not lining up in the tent for a cup of sour grape koolaid.

It was the most masterful SOTU I have ever watched a president give. (I’m even including Reagan.)

Loved it; love him because I truly admire his nerves of steel. He was walking into a lion’s den last night with enemies from both sides of the aisle and he maintained great composure and confidence.

He “became” the president last night as Chris Wallace so aptly observed on Fox. I pray the GOP has the will to execute Trump’s agenda because the Democrat’s petty and hostile behavior during the speech made it obvious they will work arduously, like never before, to obstruct.

As an aside, the most discouraging (even shocking) reaction was that of the disdainful scowl on Justice Kagan’s face throughout the speech. The good news is that Trump seems to enjoy a civil relationship with Kennedy and Roberts. BTW, anyone know the whereabouts of Alito and Bader Ginsburg? I can guess the whereabouts of the latter, but expected to see the former.

On a lighter note, we certainly have the most glamorous first lady in modern times (rivaling Jackie) and Ivanka is, in this fashionista’s opinion, “sheer perfection.”

All in all, a win for Trump and the United States of America.

Now, carry on and produce some reformative legislation!

Trump has set himself up by lowering expectations. Anytime he looks good it drives the opposition crazy.

    • EThompson says:

I would disagree. Trump has vocalized some pretty aggressive goals and ensured that the multitude of serious problems facing this country are “fixable.”

I would claim he put his neck on the line last night, yet another reason he garners my admiration and support.

      He’s fearless.

Trump knows how to play an audience. He played to the voters to get elected. Last night, he took the same ideas and sold them in a speech for the congress and to some extent the media.

93% of communication is non verbal and his tone, manner and delivery was the package they wanted it wrapped in.

He also gave the media a form of retreat with honor, as they can now say “Trump Changed” when all he did was repackage. It will be interesting if they pull back from total war.

“93% of communication is non verbal and his tone, manner and delivery was the package they wanted it wrapped in.”

This is traditionally true of politics but I wouldn’t give Trump an “A” on oratorical skills. I think that what won the election and what made this SOTU so very powerful was … gasp … the message!

BTW, even if it is temporary exuberance, the market responded in a remarkable manner today. Take advantage of this fellow members while you can!

“. . .the market responded in a remarkable manner today. Take advantage of this fellow members while you can!”

      That’d be sell, right?

      • EThompson says:

That’s a tricky question because I do some day trading. Some stocks should be “in and out” and others are keepers. Unlike many, I favor growth stocks as much as I do dividend stocks.

My only advice about the market is that it is far more sensitive to non-fiscal influences than it should be and must be analyzed every single day with a knowledge of the impacts of global and political events.

In the good old days, stocks were based upon pure profitability; tonight SNAP, Inc. is about to announce its IPO price which is predicted to be high although it lost 400 million on 500 million dollars of revenue last year. This is the best example I can conceive for analysis of “other influences.”

I’m still not sure what I’m going to do, but I would guess there might be a more robust reaction after last night.

Would it be a bad thing if they are drinking Kool-Aid?

  6. EThompson says:

Stock update after discussion with my husband:

Snap is getting so much attention, I think many investors will be selling currently owned stocks to pay for this new investment. It ain’t gonna trade at $14- $16; I predict $20- $30.

Alert: Investors have some unusual opportunities to buy some great stocks at low ball prices that current owners may sell to raise cash for Snap.

I believe (at this hour) this may be the position I take tomorrow.

No need for Kool-Aid when there’s sure to be at least one 24/7 NeverTrump bitchfest thread running over on that other site. The one who must not be named … you know, rhymes with Rick O’Shea and misrepresents itself as the ‘home of smart, civil, center right conversation’ on the web. In the interest of truth-in-advertising, they probably ought to brand themselves AnklebitersRus.com because it occurs to me that if it weren’t for carping kvetching and whingeing about Trump they’d have to find something else to be sullen and pissy about.

With the exception of Rob Long, none of the original founders are entrepreneurs. This makes a difference in terms of their understanding of America’s most unique presidential candidate in history.

Media talk is cheap and easy; profitability is a long and hard battle against many forces that look to stymie ambition.

They better put another gerbil on the server wheel.

      • Xennady says:

I don’t think they need anything as large as a gerbil.

        Perhaps a another shrew…

Of course you’re right, even if you’re spelling challenged. The “Trumpian Hordes” are under attack. A-holes.

Haven’t been there in so long, Vlad, not sure I know how to get there anymore. I still read the Daily Shot but it’s getting rather boring too.

Didn’t take you to be a FC fan, Dev. mymy

      • DevereauxDevereaux says:

I like the “This Day In History” bit. It can be amusing.

I am a FC fan, not just the Daily Shot, but I’ve read some of his short stories and fiction novel. The guy has skills.

There are times I would like to choke him, but I give the gentleman his due. He is a gifted and motivated author.

        • DevereauxDevereaux says:

Haven’t read anything else of his, so can’t comment. I liked his DS for quite a while – until he became a NT’er. Even after Trump won the election, he seemed to constantly harm on negatives. I have a hard time with people who don’t understand winning. I might have reservations about Trump succeeding in all he has set out to do, but I’m with him on trying. Seems like FC WANTED him to fail.

I agree with this particularly after the “performance” Dems gave at the SOTU. I’m somewhat perplexed.

What is the true agenda here?
