FWIW

Just heard that Alan Combs died.

I think he was pretty young. I never agreed with pretty much anything he said, but I hate to see someone young die.

Way back when Hannity did his TV show with Colmes I briefly listened to the radio program he did all by himself.

Having seen him on TV with Hannity, I was shocked at the nastiness Colmes displayed.

But not really surprised. Nastiness seems to be the default position leftists deploy whenever they must discuss that some people disagree with them, and they are apparently able to hold it in check only when faced with potentially harsh consequences.

Perhaps such as getting booted off a lucrative TV show on the most popular news network, which also gives you your own radio show, even if rather few people listened.

I know I should not speak ill of the dead, and I note that multiple people at Fox have had nice things to say about him after his passing.

Alas, I don’t think Colmes would have returned the favor. I think he would have made nasty remarks about them, at least on his radio
    show.

I hope I’m wrong, but long experience suggests to me that I am not.

I’m with you on this issue. Colmes was shockingly arrogant and hostile and quite frankly, not at all intellectually engaging. Sean Hannity and “KG” chose to take the high road regarding his death and I respect this.

Liberals might want to learn a lesson here.

        They won’t, of course.

After I posted that, I saw Colmes attacked as a weakling by some leftist outfit, presumably because he wasn’t nasty enough when confronted by those lacking faith in the leftist dogma du jour.

Having been shocked at how nasty he was during my brief time listening to his radio show, I can only imagine that they were upset that he never attempted to douse Hannity with acid while they shared a TV show.

The Blazes with these people, all of them.

You can’t win and this has been a difficult lesson for me to learn when I disagree with my own mother re: Trump who she continues to define him as “tacky.”

My brother and sister-in-law were bundlers for Obama and complained that my very favorite nephew (their first son) had political issues with Islam; they were afraid he had become a radical right wing fascist. I was so taken aback by this observation, I could only respond with a mere … Huh?

However it’s Christian to not to emulate the opposition. If they are nasty, at least in death we can be magnanimous.

Dev, you misspelled his name in the OP. Colmes not Combs.

I agree, show kindness after a person dies. If for nothing else for the grieving family.

  4. DevereauxDevereaux says:

Sorry, Dime. I may well have misspelled it, but it was an unwitting error – nothing meant by it.

Brit Hume left one of the better comments.

“So sad to hear of the death of Fox News colleague Alan Colmes. He and I agreed on little, but I liked him immensely. Good guy. R.I.P.”

I didn’t realize he was that old.

I’ve read some nice things about him since his passing. Seems those who knew him held him in high regard even in disagreement.

John Derbyshire talks about Colmes in his latest podcast, but I haven’t yet listened to it. I recall that Derbyshire and Colmes clashed on the latter’s radio show a few years back.
